School Project on SpaceX Help
« on: 02/13/2014 08:13 pm »
Hi. My name is Timothy. I read this site a lot and I love reading the SpaceX news. I'm very excited about what they are doing!

We have been told to give a presentation on things we like in my seventh grade class and I have decided to do mine on SpaceX.

Can I ask for some help?

I REALLY REALLY want to be able to find a bigger image of these two photos. I can't find them anywhere in google only in the news articles, but bigger ones would be awesome.

I also wrote to SpaceX asking if I could maybe visit or talk to someone there and I didn't get a response. :(

Thank you.
Timothy.

Those two are from the L2 collections, or dumps as we call them. Basically, NASA take lots of photos, click click click click and then NASA select a handful to put on their site. L2 is sent the "whole reel" and they include photos like that, which NASA think are spoiled by the lighting effects and don't use them, but they tend to be the best ones, which is why Chris uses in the in the articles a lot.

You should totally join L2. It's great all on things, but also on SpaceX.

Does it have to be these two exact photos, or could it be slightly different photos that show the same objects in the same scenario?

No! I want the exact photos I showed above, not random ones! I had already looked there!

Thank you, you are more helpful! I'll ask my father, but I think I used up all my allowance on a PS4 last week! ;D

Hey Timothy -

We'll do all we can to help you with your school project! I'll give you L2 access.

Please and check your PM (the Red "Messages" at the top of the page") for direct links to those dumps where the photos you want are in hi res/full size in about 10 mins, as I'll see what route I can provide in hooking you up with SpaceX.

 PS4! I want one of those! ;D

Well done! (And to note I didn't write it, that would be cheating! ;D) Let us know if you get an "A" or whatever they mark these things with these days (used to be gold stars back in my day!)

If you live in Ohio, you should try to get some sort of internship or something at Glenn Research Center... They have some stuff for high school students, too, I think. So, keep your eye on that for when you get older! It's a lot of fun. :)

EDIT:At very least, try to go on some tours, there, especially the Plum Brook facility. The biggest vacuum chamber in the world and where SpaceX tested their fairing for Falcon 9 and where the beginning part of The Avengers was filmed. :)

Went into reader mode and love this site's coverage, especially L2. Thank you for that Chris! :)

I'm now inspired to work for SpaceX. How old do you need to be to gain an internship? I know it won't be for years, but I like to plan! ;D

I believe I heard Gwynne say 17 during some interview.

That's only the legal/policy minimum though, she did also add that they don't generally accept high school students. From friends who have previously interned there, sounds like almost all the interns have finished at least their sophomore year of college, with some even having finished their undergraduate degrees.
