The official answer to my question from the Kennedy Space Center.

Launch Viewing
Due to the time of the launch, viewing will not be available at the Visitor Complex.

Primary Launch Viewing Locations from North to South
Marina Park: 501 Marina Road, Titusville - Restrooms, parking
Sand Point Park: 101 N. Washington Ave, Titusville - Restrooms, parking
Space View Park: 8 Broad Street, Titusville - Parking nearby
Manzo Park: 3335 S. Washington Ave (US 1), Titusville - Restrooms, parking
Rotary Riverfront Park: 4141 S. Washington Ave (US 1), Titusville - Restrooms, parking
Kennedy Point Park: 4915 S. Washington Ave (US 1), Titusville - Restrooms, parking
Westbound SR 528 Causeway over the Banana River Park well off the right-of-way near the water
Jetty Park: East end of Port Canaveral off George King Blvd. - Restrooms, parking
Cocoa Beach Pier: 401 Meade Ave., Cocoa Beach - Restrooms, parking
Alan Shepard Park: East end of SR 520, Cocoa Beach - Restrooms, parking
Fischer Park: East side of SR A1A 1/2 mile south of SR 520 - Restrooms, parking
Lori Wilson Park: 1500 N. Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach - Restrooms, parking

Is there something preventing one from driving across from Marina Park to Parrish Park or beyond?
What kind of wastrels would dump a perfectly good booster in the ocean after just one use?

Yes, I feel like I'm driving amongst icebergs with all the 4ft to 12ft piles of snow and ice around here that haven't been able to melt.  >:(  Should be warmer today. :D

But this thread is supposed to be about sunny Florida and cold space . . . not the deep freeze we've been having around here.  As much as I agree about the view outside my office window here in SE Michigan.

I can see a first stage of a rocket, after completing its task of inverting itself, firing (retro) rockets and not burning up. Its probably not going fast enough to burn up. A second stage or capsule that is up around orbital/escape velocity turns around and fires its retro's and has enough fuel to do a controlled landing. Do the retros punch a hole in atmosphere protecting the vehicle or does the combined heat of rockets/atmosphere cause more problems? Would a BEO craft returning for a soft landing benefit from the retros (ie less/no shielding?)? Inquiring minds want to know. :-*

^^^ Anything at orbital (or beyond) velocity is going to use a heatshield to do most of the braking, because the shield weighs less than the fuel for equal delta-V.

Sorry, I obvious referenced the 24 hours as in relation to the static fire.....but I've made it clearer!

Me too. SE Michigan is starting to look like friggin' Greenland after 85" of snow (and counting, 60+ days straight) and the Great Lakes being 92% frozen over.
Yeah, I am 18 miles north of Detroit and it seems like winter is never going to end...

But I am going to be in Florida on March 15/16.
Not only will it be warm, but I just might hop in the car and drive to the Cape.
(Sleep is overrated.)
Is there any better place to watch the launch than Jetty Park?
How much of the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge is poem to the public at night and during a launch?

Comga,

I guess the causeway will be closed for a 4am launch, so the best viewing of the SpaceX pad (complex 40) will be right across the street (Rt. 401) from the cruiseship terminal looking north.  Here:  28°25'7.71"N  80°37'42.92"W.  Everyone will be parking on the grass there, few fast moving cars, and you can see the pad.  At the jetty, you have to wait until it's off the ground to see it.

Alternatively..... Get a hotel room on an upper north facing floor at the nearby Ron Jon resort, and you can sit on the balcony and have an even better view.  Plus you can go right back to bed after the launch or if there's a scrub.  I do that when I bring my kids to see a launch.  Call them up, and they'll know where to put you (the open air hallway balconies also view the launch pads even if there's no north facing room available).

Thanks, sghill.  That looks like a great view across the water.
Do people just pull over on the shoulder of the road without being "moved along" by the authorities?  It looks like they lock up the big parking lots across the street.
The causeway will be open for "NASA Social" bloggers etc. but I don't think tickets are being sold.

My uncle is lucky - he just has to walk to the roof of his apartment complex and gets an unobstructed view of the beach. Granted he'll only see the rocket a few seconds after launch, but should be a great place to track it from

You got my curiosity, and I HAD to go check... The most I can get is 22% abv, and then only with a slow ferment, adding sugars along the way... they say they use beer yeast and champagne yeast... got to think long and hard about this, as I have both... Thx Doc ;D this is a challenge...

ok, seems that they use the freeze method to up the concentration of alcohol... under controlled conditions no doubt, not like the olde Apple Jack, set outside the back door for the night, enough to make you blind drunk or just blind ;D

I knew there was something familiar about the shape of the F9 legs.

I can't remember, was it this quiet close to launch day for the last F9 launch? You'd think they'd be publicizing it for all its worth given it's the first launch with pretty legs.
