hmm where's the party?

On hold, many have been oogling a set of legs. That is where most of the action, has been recently.

Slightly disappointed the legs were announced in advance. I thought perhaps they would be kept secret until the webcast on L-day and then revealed with a slow zoom out.

Maybe it would have had a cool soundtrack like Pink's "Try" or something....

SpaceX has no sense of corny drama.....

Too big a development to keep under wraps without someone eventually spilling the beans.  Better to control the message anyway.
We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives.

Launching with legs is enough drama

Speaking about drama.......I still remember the drama that unfolded exactly 1 year before right now! Let's hope Dragon CRS-3 won't have the problems that CRS-2 did.  :)

(the launch was after 11 pm here, and I think I didn't sleep the whole night while waiting for news about the Dragon...)

Actually if there's something about the legs to be afraid of, it's the software codes about the recovery part interacting during the ascent up......  ::)

(not that I know how SpaceX coders work  ;))

It is same level of danger as, say, sudden separation of second stage from first stage and engine burn while still being on pad. Why you do not worry about that?

Because we have plenty of experience of that not happening.  We have no experience of legs not opening prematurely.

There is a comment I want to make about not slipping a Bacardi Breezer into the fuel tank, but it will just get trimmed  ;D

Yeah, obviously SpaceX are rote amateurs so the thing I just thought of is obviously a big risk.

...this is kind of a buzz kill for the party thread you guys...

Trust me, this wasn't my intention all along.... ;)

...one good thing about this launch is that the launch time's pretty good on this side of the world (exactly half a day faster than EDT so 4:41 pm for me), so expect me to get peanuts for Sunday tea-time for good luck. ;)

Say hello to party thread, kiss goodbye to staying under our 10,000gb monthly bandwidth allowance (again!) ;)

Anything goes, within reason, to keep the main threads tidy.

It's about the mission and it's a party, so if feel like this:

Don't post in here. This is not for grumpy people.

However, if you feel like this:

This thread is all for you.
Tsk tsk.... I'm not sure that pulling up Arsene Wenger for a SpaceX launch at this time of the season brings along good luck... ;)

It would be epic if they can keep that lens clear through both return burns, leg deployment and slow ocean surface approach. Or, launch the Hexacopter, with one hell of a zoom lens from one of the recovery ships. HA! Epic I say!

It would be great to watch the stage actually treading water...

My ideal fantasy test has it slow to a hover a few hundred meters above the ocean. Pause for the cheering to die down and check all the data is gathered. Then in one move flip the legs back to stowed position, cut the engine and plunge into the ocean.

It cannot hover and they want to recover it as intact as possible.
