1/48 Extended Stay Apollo Lunar Module
« on: 01/19/2014 02:31 am »
Been working on this for some time...

Its based on this concept:  http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/11/moonbase-apollo-1968/

Using the Monogram LM Kit plus Plastruct piping and domes and other stuff, like 1/35 German gas mask canisters.

Hello Mike,

what a nice concept. You're also a friend of the little details, your model looks really cool.

Keep on building!

I don't know... I could probably complain that the module ECS panel is wired backwards but that would probably be picking nits.... ;)

Seriously though its a wonderful model... However... I really have to ask... Why is the toliet on the OUTSIDE of the module? :)

It's in the airlock.  The inner hatch is open and the outer bulkhead is not in place in most pictures and in the final assembly is a clear plastic dome so you can see inside the thing.  I will be posting some more photo's later on.  I am representing the outer hatch with a sheet of silver foil, and unfortunately, it will obscure much of the interior view.

An idea? How about just "mocking" the outer hatch with drafting tape on the plastic? Should block off a lot less of the view...

Thanks!  Or perhaps I cut a real thin outline in the foil...

Here are some more in progress shots.  Attached the legs and need to clean them up.  Placed the hatch cover on the outer bulkhead by gluing foil onto it.  It might be coming off.  Hab is just placed on top of the DM for now, there still work to be done,

Getting nearer the end.  Mounted the thruster quads, positioned the habitat on the descent module, built the porch and railings.  Trying to decide if there is room on the thing to put a shuttle arm on in order to load cargo off the sides.  Still working touch up, but had to share.
