http://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/bengaluru/ISRO-to-Launch-INSAT-4E-Soon/2015/05/21/article2825740.eceBENGALURU: The country’s premier space agency Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is currently working on launching the INSAT-4E along with other missions in the coming six months, according to its chairman A S Kiran Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion of World Metrology Day in the city on Wednesday, Kumar said that the 2,000 kg INSAT-4E, carrying five transponders, would be launched in July or August as the GSAT-6 mission.
The satellite will offer a Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (S-DMB) service. To be launched with various optical intruments, the GSAT-6 will also provide other services to mobile phone users and vehicles.
The satellite will also have a rubidium atomic clock which will help in several other scientific experiments, Kumar said.
“We are working on prototypes of GSAT 17, 18 and 19 which will have more than 48 transponders,” he said, adding that this was part of ISRO’s aim to reduce the dependence on foreign products.

What type of testing? Do they "hot" test the flight engine?

Meanwhile, the GSAT6 communication satellite is expected to reach Sriharikota space port on July 6 after it was flagged off from Bengaluru, the official said on the condition of anonymity.
He said the GSAT6 communication satellite will be put into space aboard a heavier rocket called geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV).
The GSLV rocket's first stage/engine has been assembled and the activities relating to that rocket assembly are progressing smoothly.

Does anyone know the tentative launch date of GSLV-D6 ? It was supposed to be launched in May. Once the launch is successful, it will be declared operational. It seems to me that ISRO is not putting efforts to make it operational as soon as possible as Chandrayaan 2 will be launched by the scaled up version of GSLV MK II in late 2017 or early 2018. It will take ISRO considerable time to scale up the higher payload capacity of GSLV MK II. Therefore the GSLV MK IIs are launched, the earlier ISRO can upgrade its payload capacity
