Stargazing Live
« on: 01/08/2014 07:05 pm »
Just a reminder for UK residents that Walter Cunningham & Chris Hadfield are interviewed on tonight's episode showing on BBC Two now. It's a general space exploration episode.

He's brought the Orlan glove with him! Must have been allowed to keep it.

He's a very good communicator Chris Hadfield.

Maybe I am getting old but I tend to find the presenters on these types of show can be annoying but they aren't too bad on this so far.

Some good shots of the sounding rockets used in auroral research. What models were they?

He was an interesting interview as well.

You cannot fault the presenters on these shows when the BBC do them. Obviously Brian Cox's credentials don't need repeating, but Dara O'Brian, as well as being a comedian, is a huge science nerd, has a Maths degree, and is a very intelligent performer.

Personally (and I don't know if any other British people agree with me) I think we need to get Robin Ince doing more stuff on TV, he's another comedian that does a lot of science-based material/shows. He told me that when Dara got the Science Club show on BBC2 he was a little frakked off because he'd been trying to do a similar show for years off the back of his Radio 4 show with Brian Cox, The Infinite Monkey Cage.

Some showbusiness drama for you, there.

Really enjoyed stargazing live this year. Had to laugh at Cox getting quite irate about interrupting discussion of infinite multiverses to roll the daft quiz piece. Quite right too!

Have to say I was a bit unimpressed that nobody, including Cunningham, noticed that the supposed footage of Apollo 7's launch was obviously actually that of an unmanned block 1 Saturn I a few years before Apollo 7.

Yes, that irked me too. Not difficult to find footage of Apollo 7. I think from the look on his face,  Cunningham was too polite to say so during a live broadcast.
