Author Topic: Live Coverage help for ISS EVAs on December 21, 24 and potential third EVA  (Read 15411 times)

Online Chris Bergin

Ok folks, this just got sporty! ;D

We're going to need live coverage help for these three EVAs, especially December 25 as I won't even be online properly during most of that EVA. However, it's always a team effort with the spacewalk coverage, especially as it allows me to concentrate on updating the article on site.

So, please put your name down for the following if you're up for it. Note, the idea is to have a number of people, allowing sprints and not leaving one person spending six hours covering on their own.

EVA 1 - Dec 21: Updates and/or screenshots.
EVA 2 - Dec 23: Updates and/or screenshots.
EVA 3 - Dec 25: Updates and/or screenshots.

I know we have regular live coverage people here, but I don't want to assume their availability.

Thanks!
Chris.

I'll put my name down for EVA-1 Dec. 21, for updates (how the EVA timeline works out for my timezone may affect the amount of coverage, but that's probably true for everybody).

Will verify screen capture tonight & update this if my vlcsnap ability is 'Go'

I'll see what I can put in, but I'll be in the Pacific time zone during those days, and not on my own computer, so no promises.

Same for me.  It'll depend somewhat on what time of day each one occurs.

All three EVAs will begin at 7:10 am EST with NASA TV coverage starting at 6:15 am EST:

RELEASE 13-374

NASA Postpones Orbital Launch, Sets Spacewalks to Repair Faulty Station Pump Module

NASA currently plans for two Expedition 38 astronauts to venture outside the space station Dec. 21, 23 and 25. NASA astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Mike Hopkins will remove a pump module that has a failed valve. They will replace it with an existing spare that is stored on an external stowage platform. The pump is associated with one of the station's two external cooling loops, which circulate ammonia outside the station to keep both internal and external equipment cool. Each of the three spacewalks will begin at 7:10 a.m. and is scheduled to last six and a half hours. NASA TV coverage will begin at 6:15 a.m.

Thanks.  That's a bit early for me since I'm in MST, so 5:10am and 4:15am for me.  But I'll do what I can.

Great stuff so far! And yes, as noted, no one will be covering an entire EVA, so for US timezones, the second half or third quarter is what may be doable.

I'm in the pacific time zone also and will help where I can.   Sides, the excitement might be hard to miss.

I'm willing and able to do Monday (EVA-2) morning, likely the first 3 hours or so. Don't have good screen-cap ability though

Count me in for the 23rd - I'll be on for the whole duration of the EVA.

I may also be able to cover the first hour on the 21st (before a concert I'm playing at - shouldn't miss that :)) and the last two hours on the 25th (after family reunion).

And yeah, count me in for that as well :D

Excellent. We're getting close to a good roster. More will allow us to avoid one person being isolated during coverage.

I'm looking good for the final part of EVA-1 (Saturday 5pm UTC is when I should be back at the latest). Should be pretty good for sprints of EVA-2. EVA-3 is a bust for me unless I want to get disowned by family. Will be able to update the article on site inbetween turkey eating and cracker pulling! ;D

I might be able to help from time to time, but my schedule is not set in stone yet. Whats the best way for screenshots, btw?

I use Greenshot. Sooooo easy to do.

You literally just hit print screen, you select the area you wish to screenshot with your mouse, and it saves into your PC. Then you just attach it to the post.

http://getgreenshot.org/ <---it's free.

I set up a folder, called NSF Screen, and use the settings in greenshot to auto save my screenshots into there, so it's easy to find and upload.

BTW, Chris, if you just want to capture the current window, it looks like you should be able to do Alt+PrintScreen, and it will limit the capture to just that. May sometimes help in speeding up / avoiding the "select the area" step??

cheers, Martin

Or, if you want to take it one step further, you select an area, then just hit shift+printscreen to capture the last area. And to make it easier, you switch the hotkeys so that printscreen captures the last area. That way you set up the area on a testing screenshot and then capture away :)

Greenshot is amazing, you can just select the capture area (i.e. NTV), and the program will then remember that area, so you can just press Shift+PrintScreen to take instant shots of NTV only, which are saved as JPEGs to a location of your choice. Highly recommend!
