What's the purpose of the party threads? I understood it to be a place to let off steam before and during big events, keeping the update and discussion threads on topic. Where's the line for off-topic or Chris-angering on these?

Party threads don't get deleted after they run their course, but the "choose a name" pun thread did, so I'm guessing the line is somewhere in there.

=) I chatted with Chris about it; the understanding I came away with was that the party thread should be a place for shenanigans to let off steam, rather than a place whose shenanigans encourage further shenanigans.

That threads sole purpose, was to get party thread name suggestions. Chris did say, that it would be deleted afterwards, which is fine, as far as I am concerned.

That thread's sole purpose was to get party thread name suggestions. Chris did say that it would be deleted afterwards, which is fine, as far as I am concerned.

As the originator of that thread, deletion was also fine by me - it had no particular historical or reference value. Its main purpose was keeping name suggestions (four pages in the end I believe) off the discussion thread.

Also speaking as the creator of the first party thread (he said modestly), most of those have only marginal reference value after the event... but sentimentally, they're nice to keep. I think we probably expect a party thread a little too far in advance of the event these days - they tend to droop a bit waiting for the actual launch day.

You know they just closed the Sriracha factory due to smell complaints, that bottle is the last of the world's supply.

Nah, Why complain?  That was done terrifically.  I really enjoyed it.  Even a great choice of background music.  Thank you QG!

Oh, then - during countdown - we might see reindeer dancing with unicorns in the flame duct

Well, actually, I was talking about something unseen, unheard, you know, sublime ...
But, changing the subject your way - for the hot fire on Christmas day, they'll see some ducks in the flame duct. With apples and unicorns, of course  :D

I've had dibs for years now on Unicorn steaks...

It has been a regular occurrence for me in this industry to work all manner and types of holidays- it sucks, but can also be a grand adventure.  I hope that SpaceX' crews don't end up working the two holidays, but I'll raise a glass to them in commiseration if they do!

Builds camaraderie, though, especially when your boss is funding the holiday dinners.
If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.
