Better late than never.  That's the congrats, not the launch.  Congrats to all at SpaceX.  Well deserved indeed.  And to Chris for the great site.  I'm pushing L2 whenever I can.

I said it in the Party thread earlier, but I will say it here: Congratulations SpaceX on a great launch and delivery of SES-8.  Congratulations too to the station and range personnel.  And finally congratulations to Chris for his excellent coverage and super website. This is a really fantastic place to share our enthusiasm and catch up on the latest.   ;D

Oh, and the pic of Earth from 8k miles from Elon and the pic of the sunset-let F9 contrail posted by Lars_J are both just flippin' awesome!

I sent an email to SpaceX about the Intelsat 14 error. I just got a nice reply thanking me for the correction. SpaceX have updated their press release with the correct number of years. From

http://www.spacex.com/press/2013/12/03/spacex-successfully-completes-first-mission-geostationary-transfer-orbit

"Today’s mission marked SpaceX’s first commercial launch from its central Florida launch pad and the first commercial flight from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in over four years."

I've been worried about this all day.  I had a company event this evening that I bowed out of as soon as I could to check.  I'm wowed!

Congratulations and a big thank you to SpaceX, Orbital, SES, and also Chris and NSF for being the very best at being there.  You all made my day!

Woot!
Congrats to all at SpaceX on a successful launch! Congrats to SES on taking a chance on SpaceX! Congrats to Orbital for building a great spacebird and for being a great team player!

Got to see the launch last night (just before midnight over here) but couldn't stick around to see if S/C was successfully lofted in to GTO. Great to see the good news this morning on Twitter and to relive the event on the NSF.com forum!

So a big congrats to Chris and the team on a job well done and on the new forum record!!

News on signal acquisition?

Wow, third person to ask.. READ THE THREAD BEFORE POSTING.

This is why we have update threads.

Human spaceflight is basically just LARPing now.

Maybe someone can check if this is correct, but I believe this is the first ever launch worldwide of a geostationary orbit bound satellite on a two-stage only rocket without the use of a liquid hydrogen powered stage. Another milestone to write into the history books....  8)

News on signal acquisition?

This is the SECOND time you asked this. I responded to your other request an hour ago. Read next time please.

Do we have any info on signal acquisition from SES-8? Spaceflight Now wrote at 2320 GMT, that "SpaceX and SES are awaiting acquisition of signal from the SES 8 satellite before calling this launch a success." Since it is called success without mentioning signal acquisition.

Acquired 6 hours ago. Spaceflight Now with old info as usual.

LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

As expected, the rainbow contrail and the kerosene jellyfish has appeared on this launch! Impressive!  8)

Well done SpaceX. Certainly blew my expectations out of the water.

This marks a big turning point for SpaceX.

Their public outreach is exceptional. The coverage and updates of this launch have been extraordinary and big kudos should go to them for that.

??? IIRC the Atlas is a 1 1/2 stage LV. So the Atlas Agena stack is 2 1/2 stages.

Yeah I found out that after I typed the message above.....ATS-1/2/3 right? Though as Zed_Noir noted the Atlas is stage-and-a-half so I'm not sure if it qualifies.....  ;)
