LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

I doubt that means that the launch window starts at 5:05 - there should be margins on other sites for the aircrafts and ships to clear away. FYI Chris has stated on L2 yesterday thay he is already seeking clarification on the launch time, but there hasn't been any updates yet.

Thanks Ivan for this information which I already knew.
I have checked the opening time of the navigational warning for the November 25 scrubbed launch: it corresponded exactly to the opening of the planned launch window, ie 2237UTC, that's why I am inclined to think that 05:05 EST is when the launch window opens to-morrow

Chris just posted an update in L2 on the launch window information, will wait for him to do the honors.

Because it was supposed to be (and was per the SpaceX webcast lady) 5:50 local for window open.

But it isn't, it's 5:05 local for window open.

Wow... it could be a real shift, but it seems like a typo. Was the end time always :17? Maybe somebody has dyslexia? What happens if we have a window around daylight savings time...oops! :)

Been trying to get more from SpaceX for the last few hours, so decided just to update the Static Fire article with what is a slip to Jan 6, otherwise it's not enough info for a second standalone article.

http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2014/01/spacex-falcon-9-v1-1-static-fire-test-thaicom-6-launch/

Will update it again if SpaceX respond.

Patch:

Article updated, as SpaceX have now responded, with opportunity options and a nice line about mission assurance.

Apologies for the newbie question, but I assume that the L is for the local timezone (UTC-5), not the military's "Lima Time Zone" (UTC+11). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_time_zones
