HTV6 and Electrodynamic Tether experiment

JAXA announced Electrodynamic Tether (EDT) experiment will be utilized HTV6 mission in JFY 2015.

Sorry it's only Japanese material. So, I summarized here.

This EDT is technology demonstration for removing space debris.
Tether length 700m. Tether current is max 10mA. This payload is about 50kg.
After releaseing the ISS, about a week test will be held. After cutting the tether, de-orbiting maneuver will initiated.

There are the sort of small simple experiments with breakthrough potential that have to be done.

Very cool! Are you going to measure the efficiency of the tether experiment? I.e. if you wanted to use it to raise orbits, what's the efficiency of electric to kinetic and/or gravitational potential energy?

Measurement of the efficiency of the EDT thrust wold be track the end mass position by the rendezvous sensor.
I think orbit (altittude) change may be imperceptible.

Just to be clear, this mission is going to deploy the tether after the HTV departs from ISS, I hope.

Deorbiting manuever of HTV-6, or a manuever by the detached tether? How quickly would the orbit of the tether decay? I would assume (or hope :P) fairly quickly as it's a test for debris removal.

Tether and End mass is about 20kg, very light object. So, I think the tether will be quickly decay.
