I was under the understanding that Russian crews were capable stating with this campaign of perform if needed all tasks of Ukrainian crews. extra personnel that worked with Sea Launch was brought in to proceed the processing.

Last Zenit?
There are two more Zenits in the manifest: The Lybid launch, where the Zenit rocket is not complete and which is generally somewhat questionable now, and the Spektr-RG launch, which has already a complete Zenit delivered.
But the Spektr-RG is reportedly overwight and might switch to Proton and Lybid might not launch at all, so there is a certain chance, that this is indeed the last Zenit launch

Final time world's most powerful rocket engine will come to life.
This bittersweet ending is tempered by the knowledge that the engine's children (RD-180/181, 190/191, etc) will live on for years to come.

I feared so. I had hoped that NPO Lavochkin would "get it right" on the second attempt, wherever and whenever that would be. A pity.

Two more Zenit launches are planned after this one, according to TSENKI rep: http://lenta.ru/news/2015/11/25/zenit/ (in russian).
I read this and there is so much conflicting info in it

Something about all the parts not available or shipped etc.
Maybe we should setup a kickstarter and buy it for a US museum

There's actually nothing new there - the 2 are for Spektr-RG (which seems to be sticking to 2017 and Zenit despite earlier rumors of it moving to Proton) and Lybid' (which is as dead as a zombie right now - maybe it can be sold to someone else?).

There may be some sitting in Long Beach.
As I understood things, Sea Launch did not store rockets on-shore. They were transported (up to three at a time) in the Commander and then transferred to Odyssey port-side. Payload integration took place inside the Odyssey hangar.

If the Commander is still in Long Beach, it might not be empty.
I believe that there were two different payload integration events, the integration of the payload with the launch shroud which took place at Astrotech's facility, and then the later integration of the payload shroud with the rocket.

Here's a Google Translation of the Mission Events. Fregat SB to perform three burns after being directly inserted into a roughly 167 x 554 km x 51.35 deg parking orbit by Zenit. The first burn will put the vehicle into a 280 x 4,306 km x 50.4 deg intermediate orbit. Drop tanks will jettison shortly after the burn. The second burn will push the vehicle into a 338 x 35,911 km x 48.6 deg geosynchronous transfer orbit. The third burn will boost the vehicle into near GEO.

I'll definitely miss the Zenit when it stops flying, with its iconic deep roar and acceleration that can beat most SRB powered rockets just with the RD-171...

She launches like a couple of solid motors are doing the work.

Thanks as usual for the coverage.
I wish I had been paying enough attention to know this was happening. I was not aware the end of the mighty RD-171 was near until I saw the article on the home page.

why no mention of 'separation' in this Roscosmos' press-release ?
That's why I'm not sure. They didn't mention sep and went straight to taking control of the satellite.

been confirmed.
http://tass.ru/en/science/843457"The upper stage comprising the booster and the spacecraft separated from the carrier rocket’s second stage," a Roscosmos spokesman said.

Waiting for correct orbital parameters? The fact that they are in control just means that they got some downlink acknowledgment when it went over the control antennas. It could bee in any wrong orbit and still be in control. Case in point, Galileo FOC-1/2.

Congrats to the Zenit launch team for a picture-perfect launch. Let's hope this one turns into the next-to-last flight because I'm hoping for Spektr-RG to launch sometime soon.

No TLEs yet for payload or Fregat.
Cataloged objects:
- Zenit second stage in low orbit
- Four second stage sep-motor covers in 165 x 800 km orbits
- Fregat SBB drop tank in 270 x 4277 km orbit
- Three unidentified and unexpected debris objects in same orbit as drop tank
Fregat should have jettisoned drop tank at 1509 UTC and made two more burns to geotransfer and then GEO.
One assumes the debris objects represent a drop tank breakup after jettison (2011-037/Spektr-R was reported
to have had a later breakup of this type of object this August, but no debris was ever cataloged)
On the other hand, worst case the 'debris objects' could be Fregat and Elektro with a failed second Fregat burn.
This seems unlikely to me, but I'd like to see more definitive statements from the Russians on final orbit (- or TLEs
from JSPOC showing GEO objects, but those could take days.)

In the X-ray astronomy community we've been hoping for Spektr RG to launch sometime soon for a LOOOOOOONG time.... :-)

Apparently the satellite was placed in its nominal quasi-GEO orbit:
http://www.federalspace.ru/21881/ (issued 4 minutes after nominal S/C separation time)
"Propulsion systems of the launcher worked in normal mode, and the spacecraft "Electro-L» №2 was placed into reference Earth orbit ."
No TLE for S/C or Fregat found so far.

this utube video is more than what we saw broadcast.
my guess that internal video loading etc might be out there, hours of it.

Someone posted a report on FB today about two objects found in Vietnam this morning after reports of sonic booms. The objects are small metal globes, one 80 cm in diameter with Cyrillic letters, the other 40 cm, found 100 km apart. I believe these are from the Zenit second stage, object 2015-074C, which decayed this morning.
