Final Preparations for the Launch of the Spacecraft Resource-P №2
Specialists from the space industry enterprises prepare the launch of LV "Soyuz-2.1b" with the Russian remote sensing spacecraft Resource-P № 2. All activities are carried out in accordance to the Schedule.
In the assembly building site 112 specialists from JSC SRC Progress prepare the SC Resource-P № 2 to integrate it into the Ascent unit (AU). After encapsulation the AU will be transported to the site 31 and docked to the LV.
At the same time experts from the FSUE TsENKI - Space Center South are preparing the Launch pad 31 for the lift off of ILV Soyuz-2.1b, which will deliver into orbit the satellite Resource-P № 2.
The Launch of the Resource-P» № 2 is scheduled to Dec. 26 2014 at 10- 00 p.m. Moscow Time.

Assembly of the rocket and payload has been completed.
Notice the ST-type fairing used....
http://www.federalspace.ru/21212/
Well this is where the article nomenclature just confuses me. For those flights with Fregat upper stage the fairing is referred to as 81КС, but is labelled 81КС1000-0; the serial numbers started with 001, and so far run up to 020. Same thing then? This is the first use of an 81КС without a Fregat upper stage, and introduces a new interstage adapter between the rocket and fairing and payload, the 196КС. It has 81КС1000А5-0 stamped on the side and serial number is 001. So a slight variation then? Note also there is no gaps in the serial numbers for the 14С738 fairing, which is used for Persona satellites. So that too is a variation of the same thing.
Also the Soyuz rocket stages are 14С530000А1-0 and 14С540000А1-0 for the 1A variant, or 14С530000-0 and 14С540000-0 for the 1B. Two separate sequences of serial numbers.
But what is odd, or so far unexplained to me, why the Progress launches changed from plane 11С517А2 to interstage 11С517А23000А1-0 with fairing 11С517А21000А1-0, but with the serial number continuing from 109 for Progress M-25M (the first on a Soyuz-2 rocket).

In William's desciption of the launch of Resurs-P 2 he might like to note that the symmetry of the separation of the four strap-on boosters (Bloks B, V, G and D) around the still burning core stage (Blok A) has been given the name "Korolyov Cross". Of course, this is in honour of Sergei Korolyov whose design bureau was responsible for the original R-7 ICBM that this family of launchers is based upon.

Literature which is linked to this thread has shown that the mass of Resurs-P 2 is 6,392 kg.
When Resurs-P 1 was launched its mass was given in Russian literature as 6,570 kg, the same figure which was often quoted for Resurs-DK.
Since Resurs-P 2 carries the extra mass of the Nuklon payload I would have thought that its mass would have been greater than Resurs-P 1. Perhaps the P 1 mass has been mis-quoted of course.

I was using the following link for the mass which I quoted:
http://www.mcc.rsa.ru/resurs_p_2.htm.
Maybe that is including units added to the satellite for the launch?
So why should it be a tonne lighter than Resurs-DK and Resurs-P 1?

https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/3811631Quoting an unnamed source in the space industry, the Kommersant newspaper reported today that both Resurs-P nr. 2 and nr. 3 have been declared lost. Resurs-P nr. 2 began suffering from problems with its thermal control and computer systems in 2016 and never fully recovered from those. Resurs-P nr. 3 was taken out of service in February 2017 when it began experiencing problems with the high-speed transmission system needed to relay pictures back to Earth. The loss of these satellites is a major setback, the more so because images relayed by these satellites are also used by the military to complement pictures obtained by photographic reconnaissance satellites. Both satellites had a design lifetime of five years. According to Kommersant, Resurs-P nr. 1 continues to relay data, but is also suffering from "numerous problems with on-board systems". Resurs-P nr. 4 and 5 are not scheduled for launch until November 2019 and November 2020, one year later than previously planned.
Several hours after the publication of the Kommersant article, the Roscosmos press service confirmed that Resurs-P nr. 2 has been declared a total loss. However, engineers are still looking at the possibility of recovering Resurs-P nr. 3. See this TASS report:
https://tass.ru/kosmos/5834861
