Here's an Atlas from roughly the same vantage point (might be a bit more zoomed out), same author.

The Falcon 9 might also be a bit more fuel rich, leading to a longer flame...

Comparing this launch with F9 1.0, it indeed looks incredibly clean. No ice falling out, no fireballs from pipes...

Some more video with a pretty good zoom:

"We drove 4 hours from Palm Springs for a 2 minute experience.

[nervously long pause]

And you know what?  It was totally worth it."

Awwwwww

If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.

DAT FLAME

(source)

I really wasn't expecting this new vehicle to be better looking than its predecessor, but it is...it really is. What a beautiful launch.

Does anyone have the catalog number space-track is using? I seem to have missed the catalog number in the threads.

Edit: To answer my own question, currently catalog numbers 39265 thru 39284.

That's what it will look like when SpaceX has their launch rate ramped up all the way!

hahahaaaaa!

Quick! Somebody make a thread about reassembeling F9 1st stages during freefall, to land as ready-made FH clusters, refeuled in a few seconds ( shouldnt be hard, just add bigger hoses!  8) ) and then launching again after about 10 seconds of checkouts. It's a never ending loop! The payloads will not be able to keep up! Aerodynamic effects from the slipstream anybody? should be totally doable!  :P

The nozzle expansion ratios are also quite different, which is probably a significant part of the effect.

Here is the video version of that, showing the individual shots that make up the image:

Finally catching up to all the comments here since launch day.

Love the noise. Coming off the pad it sounds deeper, more bass rumble, than 1.0 did. 1.0 sounded hollow by comparison but that could be the acoustics of the microphones, the flame trench, the quenching... Just imagining what this will sound like X3 when the FH flies.

And that one video showing the thrusting after stage separation is an amazing thing. Also cool watching it rise over the hill at launch. It never ends! Need to watch again zoomed in and in slow motion like some of the old Saturn videos.

Besides watching these recent Wallops launches from NY I've never seen a launch live up close. I think LC-40 is now calling my name, especially next year for one of the returns.
...water is life and it is out there, where we intend to go. I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man or machine on a body such as the Moon and harvest a cup of water for a human to drink or process into fuel for their craft.

GO FOR SUNDAY LAUNCH! - LET'S GET THE PARTY STARTED! ;D

Want to bet on whether they'll hit the T-0 the first time?

Any bets on how many aborts we go through this time around before it goes?

I'm thinking that the two static fires and the test stand issues have already pleased the launch gods. I say it lights on the first countdown. After that I'm really hoping it actually flies too.

Told 'ya. The launch gods are tough but reasonable. Keep up the sacrifices though.  8)

What a beautiful photo.  It immediately reminded me of a childhood memory.

Ah, here it is.

Edit:  Once again, we can see the advance in technology from 50 years ago, as I mentioned in my comment last night.

Check out my video of the Launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 v1.1 with CSA/MDA Cassiope as viewed from Vandenberg Air Force Base, West Ocean Avenue.

Available in various resolutions including 720p and 1080p HD
Turn up the volume to experience the Roar and Crackle, 4 to 5 mile travel-time delay.
Sorry for the length (6:30 minutes). I wanted to include the total experience and tell a story.
