FWIW, the American Spirit is still cruising south-south-west.  No destination listed.

I suppose SpaceX could have covered both possible S1 splash-down sites. One further down range if re-ignition failed, and one closer to VAFB if the re-ignition was successful. Indications are that it was successful to some degree at least. IMO

We are indeed getting some tantalizing hints to that effect. So far nothing more though.

LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

Today I failed space geek test miserably; lady commentator's "leather harness" stole the show for me.

Anyway, congrats. Better luck with the recovery next time.

On a scale of 8 to 14, I would give todays launch a 12. :-)

Rejoice, space fans. There is a strong possibility that Falcon9R will have...FINS!

That was a fun launch to watch, I think like others I wasn't expecting the audio to cut out with the video and was a bit worried each time it did it till I got used to it. Congrats to SpaceX on the launch, she took off very cleanly from what I saw and it's nice having at least part of that monkey off their backs! Now to fix the second stage relight issue, and nail the first stage landing!

Had a couple Dogfish Head Punkin Ales to celebrate!

Rocket booster relit twice (supersonic retro & landing), but spun up due to aero torque, so fuel centrifuged & we flamed out

Sounds to me like the first stage did very well.  Better than I expected, at least.  I was worried that it would break up during re-entry.[/font]

I'm inclined to agree, but add, that on impacting next years progress, in all areas, this has to have been a similar score on your scale... can't eliminate all possible problems they may face, but I know they will face them and preserver
it has been a great day for Commercial Space and SpaceX and Orbital...

The hosts looked less nervous than in previous webcasts. Webcast video quality (HD!) was refreshing compared to some other providers. They even managed to sync up the countdown audio loop with two separate camera views this time.

Had it not have been for the annoying Awaiting Vehicle Downlink messages and had there been some ground tracking camera views included, it would have been a great webcast.
