What is making this section on the first stage a lighter white?

Meant to mention that it looks like LOX is loaded in these pictures. I think the "whiter" part is ice.

I was thinking the same thing, but the LOX tank occupies more area than just that specific section.
Is the stage insulated differently at that specific section?

Agree. Partial load on the first stage LOX tank.

my question is why did they do the SpaceX logo so small. was it to allow the logo to below the ice? all the concept images before have had a fairly large logo on the rocket

Maybe. But you would expect boil off to appear at the top of the LOX tank. What we might be seeing could be humidity condensing on the LOX tank and then freezing during fill. The "extra white" doesn't extend to the top of the tank which suggests if it is ice, then the tank is not full.

Edit: expected others to make these points too, but posted anyway.

They changed it after the very first WDR on F9-01 when it became obvious the upper part of the text would be iced over.

Looks like it sat for a while with a partial LOX load. If they couldn't finish the LOX load for some reason, that might explain the scrub.

Looks like it sat for a while with a partial LOX load. If they couldn't finish the LOX load for some reason, that might explain the scrub.

I've seen elsewhere that it was a GSE leak, so a LOX leak could have been it.
