Hi, folks.  I'm late to the party, it seems.

I comment at another blog where some of the members talk about drinking single-malt scotch.  I've never had it before, but a couple of months ago I bought a bottle to save for a special occasion.  I think the maiden launch of Falcon 9 v1.1 certainly qualifies.

If it launches this weekend, that is.  If it's postponed to a daytime weekday launch when I'm at work, I'll have to settle for coffee instead.
The Space Age is just starting to get interesting.

Ha :D,

When following the F9 COTS demo launch thread live, I posted the question "Is anyone else drinking yet?"
Not only did my post get deleted,....about a half hour later Chris Bergin opened up the very first "party" thread.

Cheers :)

Here's hoping that the Falcon 9v1.1 first stage doesn't develop a bad "attitude" on the way down.  ::)

A bad attitude on arrival would make a big splash, whereas a good attitude makes only a slight negative impression; fleetingly.  Hopefully won't ruffle any plumage.  Just need to hold the head high and blow off some steam. Emulate Peter and try to walk on water.  Quench a thirst but keep a cool head.  The ripple effect.  Get some oxygen.  Ya know?

Party's can be difficult to navigate!  So much pressure.  Feels like everyone's watching and there's this vague expectation to perform but half the people want to see you crash or sputter out mid-sent

Finally approach to kiss her ever so gently then the smoky breath gets in the way.  Ocean's wet but she's cold.

Dirty and used getting picked up, taken home, studied, taken apart; only to be upstaged by a unit with springy legs and big feet.

Looking forward to some good news by the end of the day.

Sorry to dampen your impressive metaphorical flow, but there is no indication that they intend to recover the stage even if it makes it intact to the surface. I seem to remember Musk saying that they would be pleased if they got it to a stage where it could potentially be recovered.

Here's to hoping she doesn't develop a bad attitude on the way UP. After that everything else is just gravy....

And don't read anything into that please. Just typical new rocket jitters. During Ares 1-X I was talking to the TV saying "please fly straight.... please fly straight...please fly straight...."

During F-1 04 there was a small group of people in front of my office computer quietly chanting "make it to orbit, make to orbit," almost in unison. ;)

And now for some appropriate pre-launch party music. (Substitute "Falcon" for "Buzzard," and "Payload" for "Monkey"). ;-)

There will be no video. Insiders will probably report on the status on L2 as things go on.
LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

I don't have L2 membership. If you are implying that there is information on L2 that they will attempt to salvage the stage then, well, I'm wrong.

I find it hard to believe they would leave the stage bobbing on the surface for anybody else to salvage, like a derelict ship. They need to be prepared to bring it home if it does survive.

Sorry but that's beating a dead horse.
SpaceX will never leave ITAR related hardware floating on the ocean.
Besides only the scrap metal value of the tanks is over 20K$.

And ITAR notwithstanding, a company that wants to reuse its rockets has a chance to get their stage back after a flight - at least 6 months (my guess) before GH2/F9R1 executes full profile flights.

The real party, in this case, is not when it launches, but when it returns to port.
