Sorry looks like NSF has pulled the section trying to gain independent confirmation.

The fact that BO filed a protest is a good indication.

OOPS! on my part. Section wasn't pulled by NSF, my apologies. It's located under Commercial Spaceflight.

Carmack did not create Oculus Rift, but he recently joined them as CTO.

He also did some experiments with HMDs that led to a proclamation that they all suck and why won't someone make one that doesn't.. OR was born from that challenge.

Human spaceflight is basically just LARPing now.

Just to get the party a little hotter, looks like SpaceX has won the use of pad 39A! This launch is just the start for 9v1.1 good luck to them.

So can kiss the dreams of watching a Falcon 9 take off while sipping an adult beverage on a mexican beach goodby?

Since OS filed a protest, the speculation is that SpaceX won the bid for the pad.

Edit: Probably should wait to see if 9/14 holds through next week first  ;)

Ugh.  Protests can be filed at any point.  The tea hasn't even steeped yet.
If I like something on NSF, it's probably because I know it to be accurate.  Every once in a while, it's just something I agree with.  Facts generally receive the former.

If you feel that the bidding rules are unfair, it's better to discusse them while nobody invested too much.

Well Musk can't be entirely focused on this launch if he is planning a driving trip across the country. :)

He may have figured out that delegation malarkey, you never know! :)

That trip isn't happening until the finish building out the new super charger network.

Unless you want Elon spending lots of quality time stuck in the middle of So Dakota and Iowa waiting for the car to charge off a 110-volt outlet.

You can use RV park outlets, which are everywhere. And both higher voltage and higher current.

But yeah, I bet he's waiting on the Supercharger network.

With hotfire (tomorrow?) I'm starting to gear up for this launch. Remember when a few years ago the 9v1.1 was rumor? Now here it is on the pad and getting ready for launch. Couldn't be happier and wishing SpaceX a great flight.

Yea does not even seem real.  I am as nervous on this launch as I was with the first launch of the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 1.0.

It's just so strange to me that SpaceX was super tight lipped on Falcon 1 (I don't think we ever really got many pictures of the inside of the hanger at all, or the roll-out process, just pics of it Falcon 1 sitting on the pad and videos on launch day).  Then they go to Falcon 9 1.0 and it's mad dashes to get the proto Falcon 9 vertical before the end of the year, nearly monthly blog entries, etc...   Now with Falcon 9 1.1 we are back to something closer to the Falcon 1 coverage again.. very tight lipped.

I'm just taking a guess that a lot of people are going to be surprised about the profile of this rocket as it lifts off the pad. With the first stage length extension (2nd is the same right?) the rocket will have quite the look of a pencil.

Are there any other large rockets that have such extreme length to diameter ratio's? It's like something out of playing with Estes rockets at summercamp. Let's see how long we can make it!

I wonder if mainstream media will also react to how tall/skinny the thing looks?
...water is life and it is out there, where we intend to go. I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man or machine on a body such as the Moon and harvest a cup of water for a human to drink or process into fuel for their craft.
