From the land of Punkin Chunkin, you can always combine rockets, a football goal, and a car and you get this...

Be sure to stay for the second launch at 0:50.

Now THAT's how you scare cows with rockets.

I'm just waiting around for the kick off.

Go Ravens!!

I know we're not supposed to discuss which sports teams we like here but I'm interested to know. Chris gets the occasional soccer reference in so I think it should be allowed.  :P

Which NFL team do you'll follow?

I get into all things American. Not just the rockets. I'm not the typical Aussie yobbo.
Who are these typical Aussie yobbos?  What are their characteristics?  Where do they reside?  What proportion of the population make up this group?

I think you could just about count on one hand, the number of Aussies on this site.  Perhaps a few more and making some rough assumptions about traits for your home-grown Aussie yobbie, I doubt that any of them would fit this description.

Just an observation Spectre9, you tend to like generalities.  It's probably a bit of a failing but then again, I don't know what business you're in.

I'm a yobbo, just not the typical.

I don't claim to have class. Do you Mr beancounter?

My business is "job seeker" although I might start an engineering degree next year. This forum has inspired me to pursue such studies.

Will have to see if I get accepted to the local educational facility.

I do hope my yobbo brain doesn't struggle too much with thermodynamics  :(

Apologies, didn't mean to get personal.  Yobbos weren't in flavour when I was growing up.  If you're seriously interested in engineering, Perth is not a bad place to live and study and I just happen to work at one of those places.

Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to follow an engineering course but go for it and work that 'yobbo' brain.  It's the only one you've got.

BTW, I'm at the opposite end of the age spectrum to you so my perspective is clearly going to be a bit different.  I'm hoping that you at least, will see colonies in space.  I'm still hoping Elon can make it happen in my lifetime.

Go Elon and SpaceX.  I'm confident they'll fly this month and fly well.

Cheers.

Thanks for the encouragement beancounter  :)

I'm not that young but I still think I have some time on my side being born in the 80s.

It would be cool to work in the space industry some day. Working at SpaceX would be awesome (back on topic  ;D ) but I'm not sure about getting a green card.

Hopefully I get to see some space exploration in my lifetime. All the cool stuff finished in the 70s.

I'm thinking they will fly this month too. Things seem to be progressing well. Elon is quiet on the tweeting which means he must be very busy  :P

Well Musk can't be entirely focused on this launch if he is planning a driving trip across the country. :)

But that is also not unique. Atlas V and Delta IV flew their first flights with relatively large payloads from paying customers, right?

Eutelsat got those launches for a couple of dimes on the dollar and already had plenty of bandwidth on orbit.  It would not have affected business much to lose those birds.  It was a high-risk bet (for this industry) that paid off.

I imagine that CASSIOPE is getting a rather *substantial* discount on this launch.

They are. I remember reading that.

Or rather did. They (MDA) actually bought a Falcon 5 at original pricing back in 2005! To launch from VAFB! Then in 2006-ish they got bumped to a Falcon 9 dog-legged out of CCAFS. Then, they were bumped back to VAFB for the test launch of F9R.

Which is what this is: a test flight that happens to also put a paying payload in orbit. Think Falcon 1 more than the CRS flights.

I'd wait until after the static fire before trying that...

Just to get the party a little hotter, looks like SpaceX has won the use of pad 39A! This launch is just the start for 9v1.1 good luck to them.

Sorry looks like NSF has pulled the section trying to gain independent confirmation.

The fact that BO filed a protest is a good indication.

Interestingly, it was John Carmack (i.e. of Id software and Armadillo Aerospace) who is partially responsible for the Oculus Rift. Funny how inbred these communities sometimes are.

Carmack did not create Oculus Rift, but he recently joined them as CTO.
