Anybody know of a 1/48 J-2 engine?
« on: 06/22/2013 12:18 pm »
Hello all,

I'm trying to find if anybody knows of a 1/48 J-2 engine, or of a 3D file that could be printed at that scale, or even of anything that could be used as a nozzle as the basis for scratch building one.  I thought it would be neat to build the rest of the SIV-B to finish off the Revell 1/48 Apollo CSM/LM/SLA stack.

Many thanks.  Feel free to PM me if you like.

Hi Jeff,
there is a beautifully detailed J-2 (and F-1!) in 1/48 downloadable as a paper model on Jonathan Leslie's Lower Hudson Valley paper Model Gift Shop.
Scroll down a little to find them. I built them, they really look great and are easy to build. you can also scale them up or down on your printer.

If you can find a life size J-2 and get a cam and take 360 deg of it.  It can be processed in a cloud software and get you a 3D file to do what ever size you may wish.

I think the one on display in McMinnville, Oregon is ideally set up for an easy 360 degree walk around.

Thanks for the ideas.  I ended up giving up on the project, though.  The best I could come up with was a soft plastic Easter egg, which I could cut to get about the right shape, but didn't have a solvent that would hold it together.  Superglue wouldn't stick either.  :(
