Short article:

http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2014/03/eastern-range-radar-upcoming-launches/

Great article, Chris! I'd still like to know some of the more mundane details though. Dot on the map of where the fire took place, which day did it happen, how did it start, was anyone injured.  Are any of these details available through local news outlets, or is it all kept private as internal air force base business?

Thanks! Not my best article, by a long shot - just wanted to get something on for those travelling to the launch, etc. If anyone sees any typos, please PM me. I've been up 22 hours now and I'm soooooo tired ;D

I'm working on pinpointing that map location as we speak. The rest is very unlikely to see the light of day as it's USAF stuff.

This paper shows on page 10 a graphic with all the Eastern Range assets including the MOTR 19.39 radar, but not its exact location.

https://www.aiaa.org/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=7550

Caveat that from Chris' article the affected radar was "believed to be" MOTR 19.39.

The following paper on Ares tracking gives (on page 5) the following coordinates for MOTR 19.39:

Lat: 28.47857681
Long: -80.67478864

http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/20110014643.pdf

Google Earth shows that street address to be 1539 Dalbora Rd, Merritt Island, FL, with a satellite photo of what appears to be a radar installation.

That's right by the PIDS.

I wonder if it was all started by a brush fire. It was windy this week.

Interesting. In last night's ISS On-Orbit Status posted after Soyuz docked with the ISS contained this tidbit:

SpaceX-3 (SpX-3) Status: Due to an issue at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) eastern range radar site, SpX-3 will not launch as planned this weekend. Launch is now planned for no earlier than April 10, 2014.

Same NET as reported by Chris for the ULA Atlas V launch.

I've added a couple of paras on the latest evaluations in L2 per the launch dates into the latest Atlas V preview article - especially as tomorrow's first attempt launch plays a part in how this will pan out.

So, April 14, but could be April 10, as it stands. Still a fluid situation. They have Range Radar assets arranged.

Per L2 and as predicted, Atlas V with NROL-67 is now RANGE APPROVED for April 10, with a window of 1345-1426 local.

That should result in SpaceX CRS-3 gaining a NET April 14 slot. It is understood they are working on four day slots (for optimum ISS transit, although that can always be tweaked), so we believe it's April 14 NET, April 18 as another options. Nothing from SpaceX yet, but the Atlas only just went Range Approved for the April 10th slot.

Updated the final few paras in this article to reflect:

And per L2 earlier this morning, SpaceX Falcon 9 v1.1 with the CRS-3 Dragon is now on the range as April 14 ~2059 GMT. SpaceX yet to confirm, but that will probably come later.

Will write up an article.

Nope, 4:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time. I believe that's 1:59 in Arizona (and on the Pacific Coast).

Yes, I  had incorrectly read the time & Chris helped me out. This means I will have all 5 of our little group jammed into my postage stamp sized office for the launch.
