Come with me and cheer for The Elon!  ;D

I fully intend to do so.

Not entirely certain what it is about Elon and Spacex. I've been following launches most all my fifty years and I keep looking at the clock 24 hours in advance wondering if it's time yet for this one. I did not make a conscious decision to become a Spacex fanatic  but it's happened. It appears to be some kind of calling.

Is it time yet? :)

Amen brother.

However the cult won't be at full strength until Jim turns up here in a party hat.[1]

1 - which will NEVER happen

Go, baby!  Even Jim's lack of faith wavered for one glorious moment.

I think the main reason why people are so excited about SpaceX and Dragon is that it's the first new manned spacecraft developed in a generation.  I'm not counting Shenzhou since it's basically derived from the Soyuz design.

Sure, Dragon hasn't flown a crew yet and won't for a while.  Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo all flew unmanned test flights at first.  But unlike them, Dragon is actually performing useful work as an unmanned cargo ship for now.  With each cargo flight, SpaceX is working out bugs in both the rocket and spacecraft, so they should reach a level of maturity and reliability before they fly a crew.
The Space Age is just starting to get interesting.

I'm very excited about tomorrow's launch... Unfortunately I'll be driving during the launch, but I'll be sure to have my passenger stream the audio through my iPhone. (praying to the 3G gods for decent coverage) :D

Go SpaceX!

An “attaboy” goes out to our own Philip! He blew away Mike at the presser with his detailed and specific ISS questions.  :) Good luck to SpaceX with the terminal count and launch, I’ll be in class at the time, oh well.... ;D

Agreed with the "attaboy" for Phillip, it was like an oral version of reading an NSF thread. And what a great compliment from Mr Suffredini about the level of interest in the details.
A testament to level of coverage on this site.

I just finished watching the video of the press conference.  I don't know Philip by sight.  Where was he, in terms of the elapsed time?

Dragon Rider, Reusability, Grasshopper, Mars architecture, this constant forward looking inovation and striving to be  more than what they are is why people are excited by SpaceX.

Anyone want to take a guess at what hardware project SpaceX/Elon announce/start next.
Dragon landing tests using one of their used ones refitted with SuperDracos

That'd be great to see.  I believe they've checked out the returned Dragon electronics and found them to be in perfect working order so guess they could.  The Grasshopper control logic is already well on the way to be proven out.  Is that what they'd use on Dragon Crew?

I think I first heard it in this context from a SpaceX engineer tweeting it. Molliway

I think the electronics might see some change (if controlling SuperDracos needs different sensors, different actuator/valve/solenoid drive electronics or what have you) but hopefully the basic flight control computers/programming don't need a lot of change.

Interesting question about whether landing Dragon on SuperDracos is enough like landing Stage1 on a single engine that the lessons from Grasshopper would apply in more than the most general way. I'd tend to guess not as gimballing is a lot different than multiple thrusters of fixed direction.

That's what naps and coffee are for!

Much easier than shuttle launches, which were regularly accompanied by red wine.

I'll just pick up about 10 litres of a cola beverage down the supermarket  :)

That should keep me awake until Dragon busts out it's wings.

Go Falcon 9!!!

For SLS and Falcon Heavy, are you anticipating Quaaludes, crack, or both? ;)
