I already used up my congratulations comment on the update thread earlier when I was at work, but I'd like to add that this flight was a real nail-biter for the first several hours, but after they got the thrusters working it was almost boring.

That's a compliment, by the way.  With spaceflight, boring is good.   ;)
The Space Age is just starting to get interesting.

Great entry in the GSFC change log today, 2013-03-26:

Well done SpaceX and NASA. That's 3 successful Dragon missions in 10 months, btw.

How about a nickname for this mission? So far, I've got:

"The Little Dragon That Could"

"It's Hammer Time" or "Just Slam It"

Now to see if dragon has learnt to hold it's breath in water!  ;)

Here's your answer from Molly McCormick:

"There was a girlish scream of triumph/delight when the engineer in charge of waterproofing discovered how well *his* stuff worked. #Dragon (https://twitter.com/Molliway/status/316738848543617026) "

Amazing what you can do with a tube of marine-grade caulk!

And on the subject of marine recovery, this tweet from Molly McC is also pretty funny:

@bencredible Demonstrative "recovery" photo... http://t.co/VTX96a1yYk (https://twitter.com/Molliway/status/316608224545611776)

Interesting that a NASA site uses spaceflightnow.com as a source for the mission outcomes in a lot of cases.

Interesting that a NASA site uses spaceflightnow.com as a source for the mission outcomes in a lot of cases.

A -- While many NASA personnel contribute to this site, it is not a "NASA site".  Not taxpayer funded, L2 subscriptions and advertiser funded.

B -- L2 often has the same information earlier, but spaceflightnow.com sometimes has the public domain info appropriate for non-L2 sourcing.

Just a friendly FYI :-)

Edit --  It appears as though i should actually read what you were referencing before being all "Gotcha!".  Just more proof I would be better off living up to my handle.

Errr he meant this database at GSFC: http://msdb.gsfc.nasa.gov/change_log.php, not NSF.  ;)

LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

Yesterday, Jester posted a few photos of the unberthing at L2, including this one, which is now available at NASA's ISS photo site.

http://www.spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/station/crew-35/ndxpage24.html

On Tuesday morning I watched the live NASA TV coverage of the unberthing and release, and there were some shots of the ISS astronauts taking pictures of Dragon from the cupola.  This was one of the photos that was taken at that time.  I downloaded it to my computer later that evening, less than 18 hours after it was taken.  It's a gorgeously detailed, high resolution image.

So not only did I get the full-resolution photo on the same day that it was taken, but I actually watched the astronaut take it, in real time!

I just think this is really cool.  I remember the Apollo era, and the only live images we saw during those missions were the primitive fuzzy television transmissions.  Back then the astronauts used film cameras for their high-resolution images, and we had to wait until they returned home and had the film developed to see the really good photos, which were published in Life magazine in the US.  I don't know what the equivalent magazine was in the UK.

Actually, my favorite photo in this series is iss035e008924.jpg.  It's almost identical to 8930 except that it is in portrait orientation rather than landscape, so it is better composed.  But it's on L2 and I didn't see it on NASA's site, so I can't link it.  On the other hand, 8930 is better suited for use as desktop wallpaper because of its landscape orientation.
The Space Age is just starting to get interesting.

I could swear I just heard Elon's cat meow in the background of the post mission telecon. If there was any doubt of him being a diabolical mastermind, that should now be gone...

I heard it as well. It was unclear who's cat it was though. Sounded equally like a door/chair squeal though.

I heard a meow too, and it was during a question by one of the reporters. My first thought was, it's the reporter calling in from his home office, and his cat made an unanticipated contribution to the call. Elon, Gwynne, etc, probably experienced enough to keep their cats out of the room during telecon with customer.  ;)

Of course, but that's not half as fun as imagining him sitting in his underground volcano lair stroking his cat  ;)

And if Elon did have a cat, it should be this one...demonstrating water recovery...
