ILS broadcast has started.

Why are ILS launches always at night?

Something to do with lighting conditions at S/C separation perhaps? It's quite strange really, many GTO launches out of the Cape (and almost always from Kourou) are at evening local time, Baikonur Proton GTO launches at the wee early morning hours, and Chinese GTO launches seems to gather around midnight. Maybe someone else can explain?  ???

BTW if you want sound for the live broadcast, check out this page: http://www.space-center.ru/LiveVideo.aspx (apparently only works in IE!)  8)

They have had daylight launches, it isn't exclusively night time.

I always assumed it had to do with thermal constraints and earth's shadow. With cryo upper stages you have a more benign thermal environment if you hang between the second stage first and second burn in earth's shadow. With the Briz-M hypergolics, maybe the goal is to prevent propellant cooling and becoming more viscous by launching such that it stays out of earth's shadow during the long cruise between burns.
