The cosmonauts, prior to climbing up a small staircase to get to the elevator next to the rocket, were each given a playful kick in the butt. Is this a long-standing tradition? Any interesting stories behind this?

According the latest info I have is 1/5 will go down at the end of 2013 for the planned heavy modernization programme to allow Soyuz 2 series launchers
Modernization of 1/5 for Soyuz-2 rockets has been canceled.

if there was any relationship to late chief guidance designer Mikhail Sergeevich Ryazanskiy? (like maybe, grandad?)
