What happened to th SLS development issue?
« on: 12/05/2012 12:06 am »
A month or so ago someone who seems to know what they are talking about, sorry forgot who, mentioned something about SLS having a significant unforeseen design issue.

What ever came of this?

If wasn't "significant" or "unforeseen", and its been resolved.  They're going to run into all kind of design challenges, schedule hits, and budget squeezes along the development path.  It's normal.

Ed,

The running into things is very much understood, my question was, what the heck was it, did it get resolved, and if so how?

Thanks

There was an issue with internal tank baffles.  Boeing hoped to use a certain number of baffles, but modeling showed that one or more additional rings were needed.  So they were either added, or more detailed modeling showed that they did not need to be added (I don't remember which right now).  That was one thing.

Almost everything has been on time.

There was some kerfuffle over umbilical plates but it's sorted now.

GSDO at KSC have been very busy.
