Hasegawa 1/48 Voyager Spacecraft
« on: 11/14/2012 05:49 am »
Last month I got started on my Hasegawa 1/48th scale Voyager, some pics of which I'd posted earlier in the space modeling thread.  I'm doing this to honor the intrepid planetary explorer on its way out of the solar system.

Pictures will be posted here.  I had hoped to post about more progress tonight but instead have to report a major setback.  When I glued the main body a few weeks ago I glued it UPSIDE DOWN and can't undo it.  I royally "fouled up" (that's not really how I feel but I don't want to use stronger language in public).

I've ordered a replacement kit that should be in my possession next week.  In the meantime I'll work on the small parts to get them ready, and hopefully all I'll need to do is the body from the new kit.

UGH.  But I will see this through.  <bangs head>
I'll even excitedly look forward to "flags and footprints" and suborbital missions. Just fly...somewhere.

Don't worry, be happy, next time you'll make it better.  ;)

Thanks...I just got my replacement kit in.  Will get started sometime this evening.  And I can use the dish from the old kit that is already finished.

I've built a replacement body with the parts glued correctly.  Painting underway.

Thanks Robert!  And the Voyager is now finished.  Humanity's first starship.

A couple more pics of the finished product.  It was a tough build, lots of "fiddly" parts, and I had to fight right to the last part to finish it.  But now I have a model of a truly historic and ground breaking probe in my collection.

Great job on Voyager!  It is awesome to have a kit of this spacecraft after so many years.  Maybe you can use your extra parts and scratch build a Magellan?

BUBBINSKI,

Nice save,  I can't quite tell from the photos, did you use the photo etched instrument boom kit from LVM studios?
OMG, I finally discovered what's wrong with my brain: On the left side there's nothing right, and on the right side there's nothing left!

Thanks Ronpur and RichO!

I didn't use any photoetch, just the kit parts.  I did spray the boom with Alclad copper then used a minibrush to fill in the triangular gaps with gloss black.  As for a scratchbuilt Magellan that would be a long way off, if ever.
