• The satellite is described as an improved version of ChinaSat 10 (launched June 2011) with a half year increase in life expectancy and new moveable spot beam coverage, and upgrades to the communication cables, signal converters, thrusters etc.
  
  Also this rocket has debuted some new changes too - laser inertial guidance is used as the prime control system for the first time in China, new larger composite helium tanks used for the first time (used to be smaller titanium tanks), and rocketcam being used again on the CZ-3 series.
