Does anyone know how much Dragon will have in its trunk when it leaves the ISS?
Should be just the mounting hardware noted above..

First real disposal activity using the Dragon Trunk will be SpX-4.

Had a look at some pics of Dragon during and after docking.. and I do not see any markings on Dragon.. no name plates,  no flags and no manufactures name i.e. Spacex..

Why, oh why would a commercial vendor  miss the opportunity to advertise ..   I have asked this before.. a year back.. still no logical answer..

If you look at the pictures of Dragon prior to launch you'll see what I believe are standard markings.  You can clearly see them on their facebook page.

It simplifies thermal management and you don't have to worry about it pealing off. Nobody who's going to be looking at the docking is going to miss that it's SpaceX, especially no potential customer. It's not like they're selling soda pop.

Then the Canada needs to off the arm.. and the big spacex needs to come off F 9.. F9 is ot soda pop...

No flag...  why???

Pics of the dragon on the ground prior to launch show the dragon symbol on the solar panel covers.  Those of course are no longer attached.  The pics on the ground show the SpaceX name on the upper part of dragon, but only on one side.  It must be that that side simply isn't visible in the images seen from ISS.  I'm sure their name is still there! ;D

I believe the company logo was just on the nosecone, which was jettisoned. It does seem strange that they don't put decals on any of the parts that don't burn up.

I'm guessing it is because they are concerned that some of the logos may be worn off during the ascent. Better to have no logo that one that is half peeled off. (The C1 Dragon SpaceX logo was a bit worn, but that may have been mostly due to re-entry: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oliverj819/5920117958/in/pool-spacex|oliverj819 )

It could also be a NASA requirement for visiting commercial vehicles. I guess the Cygnus flights to ISS will prove or disprove that.

That's the COTS 1 Dragon. The following Dragons have only had SpaceX & Dragon logos on the solar panel fairings and the nose cap - not the spacecraft itself.

If SpaceX had really wanted to keep images of the trunk secret they would not have installed an upward looking camera inside the second stage of Falcon 9. Also, SpaceX is aware that either SSRMS or Dextre will reach into the trunk and thus provide images. Your conclusion about SpaceX being secretive with regards to the interior of the trunk is far fetched IMO.

Well, that's the info I had per L2:

Grrr! multiple question (or exclamation) marks really bug me. Please don't do that, it's the forum equivalent of scraping a chalkboard.

SpaceX have almost certainly considered the idea of putting a flag and corporate logos on Dragon, but in all likelihood engineering concerns made it better not to do so. Think of thermal concerns and of the need for unambiguous visibility of the craft by the ISS astronauts.

There are very few, if any, such markings on the ESA ATV or the JAXA HTV. Even the Shuttle orbiters had very little markings. Small ones were on the wings and rear sides, but there were none near the docking region.

Does anyone know what tests/measurements SpaceX are making on the berthed/ orbital Dragon that would contribute toward crew rating of the capsule?

Nothing specific that I can think of, although the crewed Dragon would be derived from the cargo variant so they are gaining experience from the system.

ECLSS (Does this Dragon even carry anything? Scrubbers, TEVAC etc)?

Thanks manboy! Reading that PDF now

I put it in the live thread in case any of these tests required crew interaction, or temporary crew inhabitation IN Dragon, and thus were happening now.

Can someone explain to me what the purpose is of the horizontal hoops
on the first stage RP-1 tank?. They are not on the LOX tank . I have not seen them on previous launches.

I saw these too, in the preflight processing photos. The launch lighting makes them really stand out.  They are riveted to the fuel tank in same location as the circumferential stir welds.

I can't find them in any photos of previous vehicles either.

Maybe they were covered up by cork on the previous vehicles, but then again I thought they disposed of the TPS somewhere around F9-03.

Offline Joffan

They just appear to be the welds, emphasized by the side-on lighting from below.

Perhaps on previous missons they were ground flat, but the benefit of that step was cosmetic only.
