I am sorry if this was asked before, but I can not find it. When Don entered the Dragon he wore a surgical mask, Oleg wore a filtered mask. Can someone give me a reason? If this is the wrong place to ask, please remove and advise. Thank you.
I was also curious about that...

If anything (powder or liquid) had come adrift inside Dragon, the crew would breathe it in. Not a good plan ;-)

Each segment has different Personal Protective Equipment requirements.  On the US side, it is usually goggles and a dust mask.  The Russian side does not use dust masks, they use the half mask with cartridges.  Therefore, you see the US crewmember with a dust mask and the Russian crewmember with a half mask.

Is this standard protocal for most items?  Russian and American segments use different gear?

This is one of the reasons why I view the ISS as being essentially Mir-2 and Space Station Freedom docked at PMA-1.  There is very little inter-segment overlap at all except (I think) power supply.

Sky News (UK) on the phone! Oops, they don't know the format, they think they have a live opportunity.
Definitely one of the advantages of being here -- we get to cut in front of that "stuff."

Yeah, they didn't know this was a line of questions. They thought this was all for them. Fox News (same company) did the same during Shuttle mission events.

I've worked for Sky (sports reporting), they are big time mass media, so one can sorta understand.
Not a big deal and they got it straightened out.  I'll bet that made one or two of the folks on the phone bridge a little nervous. :)  Those Ku-band video windows generally can't be extended and it's no fun to get bumped.

Everyone keep an eye on the official sources as NTV coverage will be much less for the coming days.
Yes, to emphasize (and probably repeat earlier posts), for those who aren't getting Monday off, a lot of people here in the States are, including a lot of NASA.  The next live PAO update will probably be the ISS Update hour on Tuesday morning.

As a lot of people here already know, the live ISS stream(s) are the best bet this three-day weekend.

25 Hours to clear out something the size of a small U-Haul truck?  Seems like it could be emptied out in 3-4 hours tops ...

Takes longer when each bag must be inventoried and placed in a specific location on ISS (which may require moving other things out of the way first).

Lesson learned from Mir, where the stowage system was haphazard and the crew often wound up spending a whole day (or more) trying to find items needed for tasks: a time investment upfront in unloading the spacecraft pays off later.

NASA PAO respond about Dextre's visit to Dragon's trunk to us, covered at the end of this article:
http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2012/04/iss-robotic-arm-preparation-greet-spacexs-dragon/

Starts 4pm Sunday.

I'll do another article this weekend to cover everything.

GO to remove goggles and masks at this time.

Let's hope they don't have an anomaly with that procedure.
LOL.

But seriously, unlike working on the ground in a dusty warehouse or factory (or auto shop?) zero-g aggravates fine dust accumulation if
pre-cleaning and filtering are/were incomplete.
Keep those dust masks on until its OK!
Dust can really cause serious lung problems if you are negligent
about WPP hardware over a long period of time.

Maybe that's why Josh said for the "majority" of the time, not "all the time". Checking - as it'd be nice to get that pre-CRS operation tested.

The only reason I can think of as for why the SSRMS would remain grappled to Dragon is to provide some shadowing (and thus cooling) and/or MMOD protection to the thermal imagers/LIDARs in the GNC bay.

It can't be power related, since Dragon's grapple fixture (FRGF) cannot transfer power, nor can it be related to stability, since if the CBM connection was loose in any way, they wouldn't have been allowed to open the hatch.

Hmmm...I'm wondering if it was left on for the reboost (by ATV), and then perhaps the ground robotics crews got (part of) the long weekend off so no point needing to move it just yet?

Just a thought.

Inside of the Dragon module. Beautiful. Spacious, Modern. Blue LEDs. Feels a bit like a sci-fi filmset. Of course it is from Los Angeles.

So it's replays and video files for NTV today (Sunday and a holiday weekend, no surprises). However, we do have that robotic operation with the SSRMS and Dextre later today, so I'll write an article this afternoon (GMT) to take our news site coverage up to today's events.

NBC Nightly on Saturday gave good hatch-opening coverage and used my "one of top ten days in space history" sound bite.

“I think this is one of the top ten days of space exploration.
It’s when we’ve gone to a new level of space access.”
