Grapple is supposed to occur sometime around 8:00 am CST.

Your confusion begins by not living in the US and understanding our timezones ;) We are on Daylight Saving Time, so in Houston it is CDT (one hour ahead of CST.)

I live in and was born in Texas. I know about the one hour ahead, thats not the problem, the problem is one part of the mission schedule says grapple at 9 am eastern and another part says hatch opening at 5 am eastern on the same day.

Which of course makes no sense hence my confusion.

I think the grapple is for Friday while the hatch opening is for Saturday. They worded it weirdly, and that threw me off as well. But if you check the header, it indicates that the hatch opening is Saturday AM.

Meaning the grapple should be at 9 Am eastern Fri, hatch open Sat 5 Am?

Correct.

FRIDAY MORNING – Final Approach, Dragon Grapple

Sometime around 6:00 AM Pacific/9:00 AM Eastern, astronauts on the space station will grapple Dragon with the space station’s robotic arm and the spacecraft will attach to the station.

SATURDAY MORNING – Hatch Opening

If all goes well, at approximately 2:00 AM Pacific/5:00 AM Eastern, the crew will start procedures to open Dragon’s hatch.

Is there any way to update the acronym list or something?   I forgot what DCE and all the other burns and so forth mean.

I just went thru the thread again, but no could find.

Is there a thread somewhere (in the FAQ section???) to post about acronyms that might be candidates for inclusion in the acronym list?

I have been compiling one at http://nssphoenix.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/cots-23-acronyms/

Here is a screen shot.  Correct me if I missed a definition.

You've got CUCU labelled at CUCO.  Other than that I don't see anything wrong.

Thanks.  Fixed.

Any definitions that you folks want added?

To the best of my understanding, and please correct me if I am in error:

"CE" for Co-Elliptic, is a burn that is used to cirularize the orbit.  This is preceeded by any of several letters.  F seems to be for forward, used at apogee to circularize the orbit on the high end. R seems to be for Reverse, used at perigee to circularize the orbit on the low end.  D is "Descending" in the above list, which would be the same as Forward, that is, the thruster exhaust is pointed in the direction of motion.

"HA" for Height Adjust, is  a burn used to go from a ciruclar orbit to an elliptical orbit.  This is also preceeded by any of several letters with similar meanings.

You can see this in the diagram found a few pages back of the Dragon's flight path around the station, with this morining's nadir / R-bar pass followed by a climb, a falling back, and a descent to the starting point.

edit: corrected typo

...  D is "Descending" in the above list, which would be the same as Forward, that is, the thruster exhaust is pointed in the direction of motion.
A descending burn would move to a lower orbit, which would require a burn against the direction of motion. The lower orbit would also be faster, so the effect would be to "speed up". Orbital mechanics - tricky stuff.

I actually guessed that "D" in this case stood for "departure", but I have no evidence either way so I am quite prepared to believe "descending" also.

Some great pics of Dragon here http://www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2explore/7263995866/in/photostream/
Woah, neat!

I made some crops of the full-res pictures:

It is interesting how different the trunk color looks depending on the lighting.

Are we looking at trunk charring from the Draco thrusters? Are those shadows? Must be shadows.

Just shadows, it seems. Here is another one:

I can't wait to see how much better the pictures will be tonight - since these were taken 2.4 km away.
