I applied to be one of Planetary Resources' Planetary Community Vanguards:

Quote
Everyone on the Planetary Team knows the moment. The moment when we knew our calling was to break boundaries and push humanity to the stars! For many of us, that moment was sparked by a mentor, volunteer or educator, often at a science center or museum...

Because of this, educating and inspiring the next generation has been a guiding force for everything we do. This month, we’re partnering with a major science organization to create a revolutionary way to make space accessible, interactive and fun.  But to make it happen, we NEED YOUR HELP.

We’re building a team. A select team. We’re turning to you, our supporters, to look for 50 members. Only 50 will be selected. We’re calling this group: the Planetary Community Vanguards.  While we can’t share all the details, we can tell you that the Planetary Community Vanguards are going to be an important, driving force behind making space accessible in a BIG way!

Interested in joining the Planetary Community Vanguards?
Here’s what you need to do:

1) Fill out the application here - this will allow us to narrow our search for the right people to be a part of the Planetary Community Vanguards.

2) We’ll reach out to you to confirm your interest and verify your contact information. Please note: for some, Non-Disclosure Agreements may be required.

3) We’ll invite you to an exclusive, interactive Google Hangout with our Co-Chairman and Co-Founder Peter H. Diamandis to bring you into the fold and provide you with a confidential briefing.

Today I recieved this mail:

Quote
Planetary Vanguards -- Welcome to the Inner Circle!

Hi Kasper,

We were completely inundated by requests to participate from
people like yourself inspired by our all to action.

After thousands of responses, the poll has now closed.

It’s the passion from folks like you that keep us
working 24 x 7 to make space more accessible.

So CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve made the cut –
welcome to the Planetary Community Vanguards.
We’re delighted and honored to have your help.

We’re going to be in touch in the next 1 to 2 weeks
with details about a call with our co-Founder/Co-Chairman
Peter Diamandis to explain more.

He and all of us at Planetary are looking forward to
inventing the future with you!

More soon,

- Chris Lewicki
President & Chief Asteroid Miner

This is actually all I know about the position that I have applied to and apparently have just been accepted for at the moment.

I'll keep you updated about anything I am allowed to, when I know more.

You guys are just that good. They checked out your post count on NSF.com and you were shooins :)

or, they're fibbing about how many applicants they got. I considered applying but decided if I was chosen I would not have the time to do a good job.

Nope. They were fibbing about only choosing fifty. Actually they chose about four hundred.

We can't say what it is about just yet. Though I can say I was not particularly surprised.

I'm confused.. did they already launch one and we missed it? or is this a ground based one? or are they talking about what they will do?

Yes, it is about what they will do.

Quantum, I am not sure whether you can see my reply to your PM. It doesn't show in my sent messages for some reason.

Edit:

...aaaaaand, now we can tell you that it is about launching a kickstarter to finance an extra Arkyd100 for private us.

The campaign can be found here: Kickstarter

I missed the chat!  How bad was the trolling?

Incidentally, I notice you're in Tucson: do you have any dealing with WIYN / Hydra?

Nearly 900 backers and $110K.

Unlike Golden Spike they actually have rewards people want at a level people can afford!

Indeed. They are easily going to clear that million. Seems there actually are a market for a cheap space telescope.

I'm not real excited about 'Citizen Participation In Space!', but I pitched in a couple hundred mites.  I don't think its guaranteed they'll get their target either, though the initial response is encouraging.
