Ohio Aerospace Institute encourages local companies to enter NASA business plan competition

The Ohio Aerospace Institute is encouraging Ohio-based aerospace companies to enter the NASA/Space Frontier Foundation's NewSpace Business Plan Competition, which will award $100,000 to the competition's winner.

The contest is open to companies of all sizes — including seed-stage, startup and early-growth firms — in what OAI calls “space-related and space-scalable fields.”

Participants must submit an intent-to-compete form by April 20. Ten finalists will be selected to present their plans to a distinguished panel of judges, featuring venture capitalists, angel investors and business development leaders in July. (For information and to apply, go here.)

Competition winners will be announced at the NewSpace 2012 Conference at NASA's Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, Calif., on July 28. The best business plan will receive a $100,000 prize, the largest amount the competition has offered in its 15-year history.

Second prize is $10,000. In addition to the monetary prize, participants will receive professional feedback and exposure to the public, press and investor community.

"Ohio is a leading aerospace state, with two large government aerospace organizations in Cleveland and Dayton, as well as many aerospace-related companies,” said Michael L. Heil, president and CEO of OAI, in a statement. “Yet, many entrepreneurial Ohio-based companies focused on the space industry have not been involved in past business plan competitions. OAI would like to help to change that.”

This would be a good opportunity for people with concepts for space development to translate their ideas into reality.

This is a great award.  Its value is far in excess of its prize value, in my opinion.  Worth reminding folks that Jon Goff won it last year:

One of the posters here won last year's competition, so maybe someone else here can win this year's $$.
