NASA awarding funds to Lunar X prize contenders

http://www.googlelunarxprize.org/teams/moon-express/blog/nasa-awards-moon-express-new-task-10m-commercial-lunar-data-contract

I think it is wonderful that NASA today showed a great deal of support for Moon Express in offering them up to $10 million in incentives to make it to the moon. The collaborative software they are developing could allow for a flexible platform of rockets and landers to bring down the cost of development of a lunar lander to allow for flexibility in size of payloads delivered on orbit.

If this x-prize can produce so many new technologies then maybe ISRU of the lunar kind will make total sense prior to any manned Mars mission.

What does everyone else think about this?
