Anna Fisher explained the cleaning operations aboard Discovery: “Part of our time on orbit was spent with filter cleaning, which is what you see Dale and Dave doing here, removing some panels in order to get access to the filters. Again, it’s much like here on earth. You have to clean all of your equipment. This actually took several hours. We did it between the EVAs. When those panels were removed, we got access to the filters and… here I am, cleaning again. I thought I was going to escape that for a week or so, but this is, as I said, a very important part of our work on orbit - to keep things clean. You can see it wasn’t just me who did that. Up on the flight deck Dave was doing the same. A clean ship is a happy ship.”

November 14, 1984 - For a Few Dollars MoreThat morning the wakeup music included not only “Stars and Stripes Forever”, but also the theme music from the Clint Eastwood movie “For a Few Dollars More”.
“It’s a tribute to the day’s activities”, explained CapCom Robert Springer. Originally a group of insurance companies, lead by Lloyds of London, had agreed to pay NASA 4.8 million dollars for the retrieval of Palapa B-2. But then, in September 1984, another group of underwriters had added “a few dollars more”. For a total of 5.5 million dollars for both satellites NASA now was prepared to salvage Westar VI also.
