There have been discussions about the launch of Yaogan 16 in May or early June (before launch of SZ-9) on Chinese online forum for a while; regarding the Yaogan 15 was sent into space even without a NOTAM, it's likely that Yaogan 16 could be launched very soon.

I have the idea that Yaogan Weixing and Shijian together are the "Chinese Cosmos" programme.

This, I believe, is the same as
this one. I honestly don't think it can be launched in June; after all, SZ-9 is NET mid-June and should claim the "range" for some time. Plus the launch has always been scheduled in "mid-2012", so I think later this summer is more likely.

Yaogan 9 and Yaogan 16 real name seems to be XX-8:
邵庆军 男, 1968年11月出生。1994年毕业于东南大学,工学学士,高级工程师。 1994年就开始从事项目管理工作。现航天东方红卫星有限公司项目办项目副经理。 曾先后参与[海洋一号卫星项目]、[实验卫星二号项目]、[XX-2卫星项目]、[XX-8卫星项目] (一颗主星、两颗副星)、[试验卫星二号]和[实践六号卫星]26号基地在轨测试项目等等
Shao Qingjun, male, born in November 1968. 1994 graduated from Southeast University, Bachelor of Engineering, Senior Engineer. 1994 began to engage in project management. Now Aerospace Dongfanghong Satellite Company Limited Project Office Deputy Project Manager. Has participated in the [HY-1 satellite project], [Shiyan weixing-2 project], [XX-2 satellite project], [XX-8 satellite project (one star, two Vice-star); [Test Satellite II] and [practice VI satellite] in-orbit testing projects on the 26th base, etc.
I think XX-8 != Jianbing-8, so it'd be interesting to hear suggestions on its real name.

Yes, I agree. The parallel with the Soviet Kosmos series isn't perfect but I've been thinking the same thing.

[XX-8卫星项目] (一颗主星、两颗副星)
Translates as
[XX-8 satellite project] (one primary satellite, 2 secondary satellites)This description indeed recalls YG-9

Why do you think != ?
How confident are we of the equation YG-5 = JB-8? Could we be wrong about that?
Seems plausible that XX-8 is JB-8 and the "JB" was censored?

I was looking back at the YG-5 thread and took a look at my personal messages. Back then a source in China told me that the first JB-7 was going to be YG-5. On that same thread, Liss discussed briefly this and got to the conclusion that YG-5 could probably be the first JB-8.
Its not possible to me to get more info from that Chinese source (the last time he was on-line on the forum was in August 2010).

As YG-5 was launched, I left it without JB designator. But prior to the launch, JB-8 designator did appear as a name for a future 'Chinese KH-12' so it seemed to be a good idea to apply it to YG-5 retroactively.
I did this in June 2009 after YG-6 was launched. It could be an error -- but then one should propose another designator for YG-5/12 optical satellites.

Oh well, I can add that searching site:www.xatrm.com/api/sta/ with XX yields mentions of XX-1R, XX-2, XX二号卫星, XX-5, XX-11 and XX-Z. Most of these may be probably communications satellites...
And more interesting names are available from
http://www.xmkjcg.gov.cn/jsp/achiaward/achiawardShow.jsp?awardid=1179&item_305=3 where high efficiency solar cells are discussed:
该产品已成功地装备了多颗卫星,包括JB-8、QS-2、MS-1、ZY(03、04)、HY-2、TY-1,其中ZY(03、04)卫星已出口巴西,正在装备的卫星还包括探月二期、SY-2、XX-11、XX-12、LD-3、LD-2、FY-4等。
Of these, I do not know what is TY-1, XX-11, XX-12, LD-3 and LD-2.

There exists at least one Chinese-language forum where JB-8 designator was used for the Yaogan 9 triplet back in March 2010. Search for 中国尖兵八号卫星轨道参数.

LD could refer to Leidian (雷电) . Because SJ-6B was called LD-1 during design phase LD-2 and LD-3 could be follow-on versions.

It was my idea too, but where are they? Of course we can suppose different versions between the four launched SJ-6Bs...
Can XX-11 and XX-12 be Jianbings? Probably yes but I'd like to find confirmations and to re-match Yaogans to Jiangbins...

Apparently the team of engineers for satellite(s) processing has departed for JSLC to
join the Shenzhou 9 party start launch processing. So it seems the launch can be in July.

I saw the blog of someone working with DFH satellite corporation/CAST who have just worked on FN-1 and saw the launch from Taiyuan saying that he will move on to JSLC (keep in mind that the YG-9 trio are built by CAST). So I guess the launch could be within this week (or at most early next week).

Saw that the launch may be scheduled for tomorrow. I guess we'll know the launch time soon when the air space closures are announced in a few hours....

No NOTAMs as of right now (so launch time as yet unknown), but I can confirm that the launch is scheduled for tomorrow, per reports from people working at the launch site, plus another from a CALT manager that just flew from Beijing for the launch.

Note sure if these air route closures are related (seems strange for a launch to close just some air levels....), but will take note anyway....

Expected orbital configuration has been achieved as well as the operational orbit with mean motion = 13.4506 equal to the orbit of the 2010 trio. By December 25, object C moved 2.3 orbits forward with respect to its original position whereas objects A and B moved 0.3 orbits.

From a SeeSat-L post earlier today:
http://www.satobs.org/seesat/Jan-2013/0047.html
Yaogan 16 now in formation...
A review of the current USSTRATCOM TLEs revealed that the formation reformed on or about Dec 25th, 2012 after at least two coordinated maneuvers by the (A) and (B) objects. These maneuvers were followed up by the (C) object as it maneuvered a number of times to match the mean motion of the other two. This behaviour was somewhat different than the commissioning sequence of Yaogan 9 which only maneuvered the 'drifting' s/c to finalize the commissioning sequence.
The Mean Motion of the formation appears to match that of Yaogan 9 suggesting coordinated use as is suspected by US NOSS.
