Yep, we have three US landing sites ready, it'll most likely be KSC or Edwards.

It'll be more likely to be a dawn light landing too which will be cooler for the pictures.
Let's go and explore space.

That kills any remaining chance for a Sept launch doesn't it?

To transport her back to KSC for processing adds a good week. Wouldn't kill September (taking away all ET issues etc.) as the window was moved back as it is. It wouldn't help if there is still an STS-301 but even that's in discussion. Basically, no one is sure.

Eileen said something then CAPCOM said they didn't copy, asked to repeat and nothing.

Still no comms. Few people walking around at MCC.

Three minutes at least of lack of comms. Eileen didn't answer back on a request to repeat from CAPCOM.

Why would the deorbit burn for the landing site furthest east (KSC) come earlier than Edwards or White Sands ... I figured the window would be for Edwards first, it being furthest west ... am I missing something?

Online Chris Bergin

You mean why go for KSC first? Cause it's primary choice?

After that, she'll go around another Orbit and try White Sands, if not third attempt on the same orbit is a few mins later for KSC (2) and so on.

Tuesday, Aug. 9

Orbit:De-Orbit and Landing time:
217.....04:05 AM.....05:08 AM...Kennedy Space Center
218.....05:37 AM.....06:39 AM...White Sands, NM
218.....05:41 AM.....06:43 AM...Kennedy Space Center
219.....07:11 AM.....08:13 AM...Edwards AFB, CA
219.....07:13 AM.....08:14 AM...White Sands, NM
220.....08:47 AM.....09:48 AM...Edwards AFB, CA

Ok, thanks Chris - the chart helped. I was thinking in terms of the deorbit burn for all three possibles occuring within a single orbit, not staggerd in multiple passes as you show. Thanks again! :)

Leroy is properly dressed today, so the shuttle will make it back no problems. ;)

Weather says generally the same at KSC, but less moisture in the air =less chance of low clouds.

Personally I donít think so.  They do use infra red cameras but the views are definitely not as good as daylight landings.  Having said that as long as the landing is successful I will be happy.
