Looks like a winged reusable vehicle

Any guesses on how it survived impact so well? Is the Pegasus first stage expected to glide into a landing?

It probably went into a flat spin and it's impact speed was much less than 100 mph

It's a solid stage, so that means it doesn't crush like the usual tin-can liquid stages. And, of course, it's a first stage (of a three stage vehicle) so it doesn't see the high heating rate that an upper stage sees or even what the first stage of a two-stage vehicle like Falcon 9 would see.
Also, the stage is small (thus less likely to break up) and has those wings which increases greatly the surface area and reduce the terminal velocity.

Though, unless it is a vine to the right of the patrol man, it looks like the case cracked.
How much you want to wager Antonioe and Orbital would love give that booster a real good post flight once over.
Edit: The patrol man's right, the reader's left.

It does look like a crack in the case, about mid-segment, not surprising given the mass of the wing when the segment hit water. Looks like the tail section broke off.
What would be most interesting would be an inspection of the wing to see how well it handled the flight and impact loads. That thing is so beefy, it probably didn't even notice the water impact. I doubt there's even a crack in it.

What propellant does the Pegasus use? Ammonium perchlorate?

AP/HTPB. Not toxic, and there's none of it left anyway.

Just curious...anyone at Orbital know if this stage was retrieved? The article link on the previous page said that the Marshall Islands requested the State Dept to remove it. Wondering what happened to it.

I know we removed unexploded ordnance and other hazardous items. Not sure if the bulk of the structure has been removed yet.

Thanks for the update.
