Hows is the exhibit construction going? Any news on when the other pieces will be moved in like the OAA or GOX arm?
IMO with regard to retard using our beloved space vehicles as target practice. No. Maybe it is best to put Atlantis and her sisters behind lexicon panels as is done with the Apollo capsules. To add I'd fine the parents of these idiot kids with a huge fine for damaging government property. Besides given the last time I was at KSC, you never mess with guards with guns as some moron tried to do and was arrested and thrown out. Punk morons. Yeah some idiot was tossing gum and rocks at one of the Atlas boosters. Well of course my visit was some months after 9/11 and no one was tolerating any sort of idiocy, hence the guys with guns guarding the place.
Anyway how is the construction going on the stack that will sit outside the exhibit?
You know one thing that can be added to the visitor interactive areas is a life size working shuttle RMS mock up. Similar to the trainer at JSC the crew uses to operate the real shuttle arm. Will a replica of the Mir ODS module be part of the new exhibit? I mean given the history of Mir with Atlantis I think adding this would be a nice touch. Atlantis did deliver the module to Mir and was also the first shuttle to dock to Mir.
Well I mean guys why not have with each orbiter something highlighting the top missions people remember for each orbiter? Atlantis has Mir, Galileo, Magellan, and others to her record. Why not add something about these flights to the exhibit?

I think KSCVC will do a great job showcasing Atlantis. I can't see why they wouldn't pay tribute to Mir.

The GOX arm was installed before Atlantis arrived; the OAA is
in Houston.
The other exhibits will be moved in beginning in May.

The steel skeleton for the SRBs began
being assembled in early March. Construction is expected to be completed in June.
Why not add something about these flights to the exhibit?
I don't have details, but the Visitor Complex has said that Atlantis' flight history will be represented in the exhibit.

Hmm, too bad there is no way to have the GOX hood move. Well given the exhibit, it would look really cool. This idea based off of seeing a working plane in a museum I went to some years ago. The entire jet functioned when visitors pressed buttons in it's exhibit. The elevons worked, landing gear cycled.
Here is a vid someone posted of the jet.
Yeah for the Atlantis exhibit seeing the Beanie cap work would make one nice interactive for visitors. Press a button and it will move. (under an electric motor of course, not hydraulic like it did at LC-39B. )

Anyone have any insight into whether or not construction is generally on time? Planning a trip to the Cocoa Beach area that would begin just a few days after the June 29th target date. Would hate to be in town and miss it.

Construction is still on track. From a release issued by the Visitor Complex yesterday:
...Space Shuttle Atlantis, the new home of the priceless Atlantis spacecraft that opens June 29 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Using a 200-foot-tall crane, the construction crew working to finish the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex successfully installed lower portions of two full-size, high-fidelity solid rocket boosters (SRBs) on Thursday, April 11, 2013. When vertically mated with a high-fidelity model of the shuttle's external tank (ET), the boosters will form a dramatic, 184-foot-tall gateway under which visitors will pass to visit the Atlantis attraction opening June 29, 2013 in Florida. Saw these in the parking lot for the old badging station on 405. They were just setting up the convoy escort vans when I snapped these.
