Hopefully intrepid will do something similar for Enterprise, until they get the tent fixed

I'll be honest.. Seeing Atlantis like that is kinda creepy. But I'm glad they have so much consideration for Atlantis.

From KSC Facebook page:
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is making progress on space shuttle Atlantis' new home. Here we see her lifted and tilted as she is prepared for display.

I hope one of the documentary channels is putting a programme together on this fascinating procedure.

It does look like that, doesn't it?

It sure will be spectacular to see her when it's all finished.

so she's up and tilted...but how do them now get her onto the proper stands? Support her on the 4 main side lifting points?

I'm thinking they can connect the permanent stands up with this device on her, transfer the weight and then remove the crossbars and stand from this device.

What you see now is part of the permanent structure. The main supports from the lift and tilt will stay. Once the tilt was completed another beam was added on both the front and aft to even out the weight. The steel girders under the wings will be shortened. The mounting points are former SCA hardware.
There was a media tour today and many photos were taken. When those begin to show up on-line it will make more sense.

So obviously the stand isn't going to look like this then. I think that's why some of us are confused when looking at the actual pictures.

That is where I am confused, because the rendering of the display does not show a full stand going across from side to side like the one its on now, in the rendering its a much cleaner design of one tube per side.

That's correct, the design of both the stand and building has change a lot since this renderings were made.
The article provides more information on the exhibit, including what else has to be done to the stand before completion. The skeleton structure that you see under the length of the belly will be removed.

Atlantis now resembles a life size model kit waiting to be assembled and painted.
