So Atlantis is now property of KSCVC. Welcome home, girl.
Or, in other words: NASA no longer owns any Space Shuttle orbiters.
In fact, NASA no longer owns any vehicle capable of launching into space.
Well watching the TV feed this afternoon, NASA still is the owner of Atlantis...it is just on loan to the VC...
So my gues is that they (NASA) still own the other shuttles to (or at least the US goverment is)
Oh really? Why wouldn't they just transfer the entire title over to the VC?

That is a fact.
Only the Russians are --for the time being-- capable of launching humans to the International Space Station.
My take is that this retirement was necessary but it happened much too early.
The three remaining Shuttles should have been kept in service until the Space X or other companies are deemed capable to safely send humans to Space.
Now Roscosmos rules.

I have been moved to tears whenever they are doing these shuttle retirement ceremonies. The space program is in good shape, and the shuttles had a few more missions left. As long as they pick a course and stay on it, we'll be back in space launching US manned mission real soon.
For me, I am looking forward to seeing ALL of the shuttles in the coming year in person. Hopefully, it will include seeing Enterprise next month. She was the first shuttle to grace the cover of National Geographic. NASA has done a good job of honoring each of the shuttles with ceremonies. They have done an awesome job.

I have a feeling I'll be shedding a few tears when I watch Atlantis' ceremony.
I'll help reporting with pictures when I get home. Which will be in a little over an hour.
