Before the three Orbiters are dispersed for the very final time; I'd love to see a photo-op of all three posed together with two spaces for a sort of 'missing man' configuration for 'Challenger' and 'Columbia'.
Imagine a 5 pointed star shape with two 'ghostly' Shuttle shapes (photoshopped) there with them on the tarmac.
Too dramatic or maudlin? Perhaps. But there wouldn't be a dry eye in the house. Maybe just an arrow-shape with 'Discovery' leading then with 'Endeavour' and 'Atlantis' just behind at left & right.
After all, this will be the last chance to do this...

Totally agree, but with the T&R schedule the way it has to be, this is sadly never going to be possible.
Now if the PAO were being clever, they could park up each OV in a specific place as they leave for the final time and them comp the image together showing all 3 together as if they were.

I don't think it would be possible to get all the OMS and FRCS pods back and installed on -104/105 in time or to get the RSSME's on in a month even with a full workforce before the layoffs. As much as I would like to see them, it's just not practical.

Amazing article. Too bad I don't have NASA TV anymore. I would love to see the welcoming ceremony for Discovery and see Enterprise right next to her. OV-101 and 103 side by side before Enterprise is moved to USS Intrepid.
I wonder if Enterprise will get painted to look more identical to her sisters or be left alone? I think she would look cool with the present day markings of the fleet.
Soon we will also see Atlantis and Endeavour together before they go their own ways.
Will the center where Atlantis will be displayed in have any replicas of stuff from her most famous missions?

I'd be surprised if they painted her. I hope they don't! Not sure we'll see Endeavour and Atlantis together. Endeavour will fly out before Atlantis heads to the VC.

Enterprise has her own look and her own identity and her own place in the history of the program. Don't change that, it wouldn't be right to make her something she isn't and deny what she is.

Enterprise was already changed once to look more like her sisters -- she had different markings when she was flight-tested during the ALT flight series, but the current markings have some history back in the '80s, too. (Overseas trip, Vandenberg fit checks.) Compare her appearance (somewhat covered up) at Dryden for the STS-4 landing to the ferry flights for the Paris Air Show the next year.
Re: another double orbiter move, it might be early to know for sure, but they'll be back to one more orbiter than available OPF bays later in the year with OPF-1 planned for release:

It's available online. Recordings of at least some of the ceremonies are also likely to be found on the different video sites afterwards, probably including NASA's.
(I'd expect to see lots of additional stills and video posted online from some of those who will attend the ceremonies, too.)
