I believe that NASA and space exploration WILL have a future. We will be back on the moon one day and we will be on Mars and Asteroids. Today is the beginning of a new era.

Okay I feel old now!
I watched STS-1 with my family back in Houston...(18 yrs old then)
Now I watched the final landing this morning in St. Louis...
I'm sad now...another five or six gap again! Why can't politicians just leave well enough alone?!

The pressers will be recorded after all.

Don't really have much to say right now, I'm sure I'll post more some time. But for now I just want to say this....
I know today will be, and pretty much already is, a day of remembering, celebration(?), and bestowing thanks upon everyone who worked within the Shuttle Program. Well, for me, I would like to thank all of YOU, everyone who has posted well wishes, thanks, or just simply tuned in from time to time, for keeping the interest, hope, and spirit of the program, NASA, and this country alive. I know that these days faith in the future tends to be somewhat in question at times, especially faith in our leadership. But, even though I've made my thoughts and displeasure quite apparent many times, deep down I believe that we will do the right thing. Who knows how or when, but eventually, we will return to the heavens and beyond, both as a nation and as one planet. And it will be because someone kept the dream alive. All of you, technicians, space geeks, Shuttle huggers, commercial amazing peoples, hell, even skeptics, keep the faith and the dream will live on.
And we will return.......

NASASpaceFlight is represented at the SLF, in the big group just to the left or the orbiter's wing, and to the right of the Ford. That's the press. Larry Sullivan is out there for us, and I believe Chris Gebhardt is out there as well, getting photography and HD video (I believe), which will both be on L2.

Well said! Something will fly again! Even if it is "only" a CST-100 on an Atlas V, we will cheer it on when it does (and, much as it hurts to say it, a several-year gap will make it seem more incredible...)
In the meantime, all true spaceflight fans can still cheer on Soyuz (with our boys and girls on board, who'd have thought that 20 years ago), and even Shenzhou...
Finally, a great thanks to all of NASA for 30 years of wonderful images (too young to remember Apollo) and to all of you people here for your great work.
I, too, am sad today and I will miss Shuttle dearly. But the future will still come, and something good will still happen somewhere down the road. I'm sure of it.

Michael Coats, Phil Engelauf, Cathy Koerner, Michael Lopez-Alegria, several other Flight Directors...
Also saw Michael Grabois in there, so assume trainers are in there, too.
Yeah, we were upstairs in the sim control area and went down to join them.

What a special flight day with the God Bless America wakeup song and everyone in mission control standing up. Personally I feel bad about the end of this awesome program, but that's nothing compared to everyone that needs to find a new job and sell a house. Best of luck to all of them!
