ASP communications going to Houston via MILA UHF. Telemetry still going back via MILA S-Band. This is the last mission for MILA, who has been supporting launches since Apollo.
Main chute has been recovered, and they are working on bringing it back.
Looks like the media is getting out on the SLF now. Man, it must be one heck of a feeling to be under an orbiter that JUST returned from Space. It's SPACE, people, 220 miles above where you are sitting, and they're STANDING under her, inches above their head. How can you NOT get excited?

To paraphrase a certain Vorlon:
"And so, it Ends..."
Heh! Mapp's Dad's dry roll disaster and a mention of a Vorlon has certainly added to the required surreal elements of live thread

Going to sleep for a week soon

So this is it: my first posting on this forum in the post-shuttle era. Gosh -- that does not sound or feel right, but that's history. I gonna see You at the cape, Atlantis -- right there at the visitors' complex.

Payloads are doing the de-stow on the orbiter middeck now. All ground cooling purges are now connected to Atlantis.

Uh oh, that means they have to do it all over again. Anyone got a spare tank and a couple of boosters? Everyone reset to your previous positions, and launch!

Perhaps Mark Zuckerberg or the Google founders will feel like kicking down a couple billion to keep us flying. We can always dream no?
Thank you Chris and to the entire l2 crew, as well as of course to the all the Engineers, support teams and crew of all the orbiters.
Thanks for everything.

Chris, did you actually get more than an hour or two of sleep this last mission?

Huzzah to you and the rest of the NSF regular update crew for all your hard work!

By way of congratulations I'd like to add a heartfelt thank you to all those at Nasa and everyone involved in the Shuttle program, and wish you all the very best for the future. Your achievements during what has been a vital step in our exploration of space have been immense to say the least. The current funding cuts for space exploration are extremely regrettable, but while it's sad to see the Shuttle retire I remain optimistic that the USA will be at the forefront of taking the next vital step, which would be the best tribute possible to the shuttle program.
In 2008 I visited KSC and Houston JSC, a truly wonderful experience and everytime the MCC pops up on the Nasa footage I recall the great experience of witnessing from the area as they were running a pre-launch simulation [for STS-125] with all kinds of 'test' scenarios thrown in. I recall Shannon Lucid was working Capcom in the ISSFCR that day. The tour guide, who worked on the Apollo and Skylab projects, was superb. Thanks David!
These magnificent men and their flying machines, for want of a better phrase, have brought about not only a majestic station in space but also a constant wonderment in all things inspirational, that would be sorely lacking if not for the United States space program and these beautiful craft.
Looking forward to seeing Atlantis, Discovery and Endeavour up close where they finely rest for folk like us to go and admire in person.
Go NASA, Go America… really looking forward to the next chapter!
