Wow, flag from troops serving in Afghanistan.
A bit off topic, but Doug Wheelock has announced on Twitter that he is going to be deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom:
I salute you, my friends! Duty calls and I must fade off the 'Twitter grid' for a bit. I'll be flying again, in support of 'Operation Enduring Freedom' and plan to return home sometime in the Fall. If the opportunity arises, I'll try to 'tweet' you from 'the zone'. I won't be able to share the details for now...but, be sure that you'll be on my mind, and the memories of our time together safely stored in my heart.
Take care of each other, be kind and courageous, stand up when life's storms come, and reach out your hand to help others that have fallen.
Clear mind...open heart...praying for peace... ~ Wheels

Different angle on the flag from the US troops serving on tour in Iraq - in Fallujah (which is no picnic).

1st Battalion 4th Marines?
If the certificate says 1/4 Battalion, then that is correct. I deployed with 1/1 Battalion (1st Battalion, 1st Marines) in 1999 when they were part of 11th MEU embarked on my ship, USS
Peleliu.

I bet she packs some power!
Indeed she does!!! She's the last of the
Tarawa class assault ships. Pete, to put things in perspective, I had more Harriers on the flight deck of my fifth ship,
Bataan during my 2003 deployment to Iraq than Admiral Sandy Woodward had in his entire South Atlantic Task Force in 1982. Our sister ship
Bonhomme Richard had just as many during the same deployment.
