Top work again Aaron, that was a good presser - Mr Cain on form as usual. Totally using some of those quotes.

Never going to see this again after they undock
I was just thinking about that again when the +1 note came in. Next week's going to be tough. Still, chin up, good mission, safe on the ground, then it'll really hit home when her APUs shut down.
Very interesting to see two MPLM's in one shot (granted one is officially the PMM). Bet no one ever thought we'd see that, even two years ago. Very cool!

Philip's there, asking questions
Heard him, they were good
His questions are
always excellent ones. Same goes for Chris G. when there is a briefing down in Florida. It's like they read my mind sometimes and ask the exact questions I have been wondering about. Many thanks to you gentlemen!

Q: How close would you get +2 days? (Philip!)
A: Towards the end of the docked mission we expect to have another half a day.
Q: Any orbit adjustments required for the new EOM? (Philip!)
A: Nothing in the preliminary looks. Flight dynamics are evaluating. Don’t think we need an orbit adjustment for any of the landing opps on the 21st
Does this mean they could potentially be evaluating a descending node entry for a later landing (and thus extra on-orbit time) or am I reading this completely wrong?

I was really following Mark Carreau, who had already asked Mr. Cain the important one:
Q: Can you only add 1 day?
A: Yes
The approximately half day above 13+0 (which they won't get to until just before undock) quantifies they're not close to another day.
Descending node is not available.

Question for our guys to ask next MSB, if all is well what are the chances of them foregoing the first night landing opportunity and going for 1rev later to have a Dawn landing?

Thank you for that clarification. Guess I was reading the whole thing wrong.

No need to ask. They won't put off landing just for some pretty photos. They'll take the first good opportunity.

Agreed -- seriously doubt they would do it that way, meaning I seriously doubt they would limit themselves to a single daily opportunity into KSC. It would reduce their chances of getting into KSC at all, and that's a big deal for several elements of the program, all the way to the families.
Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if that question comes up at the end of the mission.
Between now and probably undocking day, the plan is for a single mission status briefing, and that will usually be with the Lead Station Flight Director Chris Edelen most days...wished that Mr. Alibaruho had been available today to talk about the GPC restore, as there were some fun quotes during the day.

Considering the context, I agree that it's at least worth asking. However, I don't doubt that that's the answer they'll give.

It doesn't appear to me it's as big a deal on the media side (vs. the desire to land at KSC), but at least here it's been a discussion topic since well before the flight.

1. What is the academic definition of a night time landing?
2. The night time landing seems unavoidable now, since even if a weather day is taken, Atlantis' landing time will shift more towards night time rather than day time. Am I correct?
3. On another (a very remote) opportunity, there is a possibility that STS-135 could be Atlantis's longest mission. Current: STS-117 (13 days 20 hours). So with +1 day extension now STS-135 will have 12 days 18 hours? and perhaps with the first weather day taken (KSC bad weather -- NASA will only consider KSC for the first day while both KSC and Edwards will be consider after that?), the mission duration may match STS-117.
But I think irrespective of all these possible milestones, NASA will only think to bring back her as soon as possible at the first chance, once the missions objectives are achieved.

On the bright side, with a night landing we can watch flame come out of the APU vent port all the way to APU HYD shutdown.
Media would be salivating: "TOP STORY: Final space shuttle lands in Florida spewing flames!"

Just tried to view Flight Day 4 highlights on NASA TV and get this message saying that the video content has been blocked in the UK
"This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."
What on earth could it contain that it gets blocked?
And how do we get round it to see FD4?

You can view it via a IP proxy like:

Don't know Keith, I use Livestation to watch NTV and don't have a problem
