NASA have tweeted this. Is there any chance they would go back on this? If it were scrubbed on both 8th and 10th for weather reasons, wouldn't they prioritise the shuttle and try it on 12th and/or 14th? Obviously if technical/investigations/any other scrub reason they'd stand down the shuttle and let the Delta go - but my impression from STS-134 is that they had made lots of statements about window-availability and clashes with other things - but then seemed to say they could move most other things for it (except Soyuz
). Eg 5th-11th May was originally a clash with something but then available. Just wondered if anyone had "odds" on whether they might do the same here (dangerous question I know!)? Was going to book 6th-15th flights (from UK) but now don't know what to do :-(
Just wanted to mention I see this same announcement posted on KSC's FB page... makes it seem pretty much set, and I'm surprised as well.

Makes all those questions on previous pages about "when should I make reservations to leave?" kinda moot.

Not sure if they've changed the tour or if it was added as a replacement for the A/B stop, but I know for certain that when I took the "Today & Tomorrow" tour on 5/1 that it included the gantry after stopping at the causeway and before a photo op at the VAB.
Interesting, when I was there for 133, I took the tour in November and again in February (Had my son with me so had to do it again with him, not that I needed an arm twisting, lol). We did not make a stop at the gantry. But as you said, if you skipped the A/B stop it was probably used as a "replacement". We went from Causeway, to the A/B stop, then on to SLF, and VAB. Actually in November, I jumped on the free tour afterwards just to get back out to the Gantry as the Crawler was parked there and I wanted some pics (got some good ones too). We just drove past the gantry on the guided tour.

So, two launch attempts between July 8th and 10th - Regarding travel plans, this makes me remember "Murphy's law" as we will be leaving on 16th of July...

There is always the possibility of negotiating a change to "deconflict" the range. In this case the conflicting launch is an Air Force launch as opposed to a NASA launch so that makes things somewhat more complex (inter-agency negotiation as opposed to intra-agency). It seems like most of the time the line from the NASA managers in press conferences is that they will attempt to negotiate the range when the conflict actually becomes an issue, i.e. we've scrubbed on the 8th and a decision has to be made by the 9th for who has the range for an attempt on the 12th (these dates are random, don't know what actual deadlines for decisions would be). With these hypothetical dates, the thinking would seem to be that we're going to launch on the 8th, so there is no reason to try and deconflict, until we know that isn't going to happen. The philosiphy seems to be to delay the decision as late as possible.
In this case with something like 3 weeks before the next conflict there would seem to be less reason to attempt to reschedule the Delta. How many times do you delay the Delta launch. If you reschedule that launch for the 17th what happens if the Shuttle delays to the 17th, do you reschedule again, it gets to be a slipery slope. In previous cases when there as a rapidly approaching beta cutout or Soyuz conflict rearranging the schedule made a lot sense. If we were at the end of the month and the Delta had the range from say the 26th - 30th I could see NASA pushing hard to move the Delta, since once the beta cutout starts they can't launch so they would have a hard date after which the Delta would be guaranteed oportunities regardless of if the Shuttle launch had happened or not.

Yeah - I went through plenty of fun making a July 12th departure work!
Would've been nice to save the $$ and leave Sunday... oh well, so it goes.
The only thing for sure with all of this is that nothing is for sure.

Out of curiosity, where is the A/B Camera stop?
On the topic of scrubs, I was thinking about a comment my colleague made after the launch of STS-130. He commented that having gone through the scrub the night before made watching the launch far more emotional. I agree after going to KSC three days and not seeing STS-127 launch and waiting a week to watch STS-128 it was quite cathartic to watch STS-130 go up on an early, cold February Florida morning. That said, I would love to see Atlantis go right on schedule. but if it doesn't...you may find it even more impressive to watch when it does.
It's right on the beachline, about halfway between pads 39 A and B.
I think you mean beach road not beachline.
Very hard to see the pads from the beachline expressway.
There is a tourist viewing area at UCS-7 camera site which is what i believe you are referencing.

Yes that's it. Beachline, as in edge of the beach, not the road.

As to range availability I recall similar talk about STS-127. So much so for the June launch attempts that I elected to take my scheduled flight home because the repairs would not be complete prior to the end of range availability. Imagine my surprise sitting in the airport in Orlando on Monday and hearing the announcment that they would try to launch on Wednesday, which was a day after the range allegedly closed. Fortunately for me there was another tanking issue (not so fortunate for most) and we were able to get back in July to see Endeavour launch.
My takeaway is that history says range availability seems to be negotiable.

So, please don't kill me, but I managed to swing a press pass for this final Shuttle launch! I am so incredibly excited, but I've got to come back down to earth (temporarily!) and start planning what to do and how to make this all happen. Is there anyone here who has been accredited media at a Shuttle launch before who would care to offer some advice via pm? I'm particularly interested in finding out if I will be able to attend the RSS retract, see the VAB/Mission Control/OPF, etc...

Here it is on Google Maps - zoom out for position between A/B.

HaHa!

I just got the last causeway ticket from grayline! Learned from STS-133 & 134 launch that the causeways can trickle in or someone refunds for some reason, and to check past the SOLD OUT initial page and goto the order page...& there she was the purchase button lit up! The guy stated the tickets are to start being shipped tomorrow.

has anyone received tickets (from KSC lottery) yet ??
Wasn't it sent our 15June as said in their sales confirmation email ??
Received an e-mail notification overnight that KSC launch lottery tickets are shipping today (Wednesday) via 2-day FedEx service, the e-mail included the tracking number.
Nothing for me yet, but the email said they would ship by June 24th, so I have a few days before I can justify worrying. (I'm still going to!)

I just purchased 2 Causeway tickets from FDT. I received a confirmation email, but was wondering if the site was still selling tickets that the company did not have. I just want to make sure that I actually have tickets and that I am not going to get an email in a week or 2 telling me that I will be refunded because they do not have any tickets. Thanks!!!
