I think most tour companies go to the VC first and leave for causeway from there. I'm guessing it's for security. I have scored Congressional TIckets twice before. First one was for Banana Creek, second time was for Causeway. Banana Creek is better for pre-launch distractions (better stiore, exhibits, food), Causeway , imho had a better view of the launch.
Does anyone know if Florida is going to close down the toll on 528? THat is usually the bottleneck going back to Orlando. I'm hoping to get back to the mall and bolt quickly from there.
I agree w/Banana Creek being the better viewing distraction area, it's certainly closer & less crowded than the VC. Food option is better too.
I bet they close the tolls like they did for 134. It only makes sense to avoid the chaos however they'd make a boatload of $$ if they were open

COnsidering the FRR is tomorrow, and nothing has come up as a problem on here, I think I"m comfortable booking flights. Thursdsay to Saturday works best for me. Still struggling with the hotel. Coca beach would have sweet, but Orlando is the best I can do.
See you in 2 weeks.

So no KSC tix for me

I've heard that Space View Park is the next best viewing spot, does anybody know how early it fills up? How early should I get there to ensure a good spot? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm not sure but....
I just put in a fake name, phone and email, and I was able to actually add VIP tickets to a cart on Florida Dolphin's website...
Do they REALLY still have Causeway tickets?!?!
(ringshot; check it out... maybe you'll get lucky?)

You're braver than me, noone seems very conclusive on this possible consequences of this valve issue, am waiting until at least Fri/Sat for booking flights. I have a spare booking at Holiday Inn, Titusville if any use, 266.38 USD for 2 nights 7th-9th, 2 queen beds which I will be cancelling this week as noone responded to my earlier advert (got the booking before NASA announced the date, they will re-sell it at 3x the price).

Hi everyone! I know the launch is still 18 days away, but I am soooo excited and want to make sure I am prepared ahead of time. I have never been to the causeway before and I have a bunch of questions and would greatly appreciate any input anyone can offer me.
I took Gray LIne to the Causeway for STS-134. Gray Line will take you to the VC where you pass through security with everything that you have taken on the bus. Then you will have a while to wander at the VC before lining up to get back on the bus in the secure parking lot. Busses head to the Causeway after Atlantis' crew leaves their quarters to head to the pad. We arrived at the Causeway a little more 2 hours prior to launch. Food in soft side coolers are okay but remember you will be carrying it around before re-boarding the bus. Electronic gizmos are also okay and headphones are suggested (for the benefit of those around you trying to sleep on the bus

).

Wish I could be there. No chance due to work. The last mission I got to see (rather the last one that I insisted I go see before the end) was 125. That was one heck of a launch, and I can tell you I was a bit freaked out when the MPS alarm anouncment came over on the come right after liftoff. Really relieved when they said no action.
Alas I ramble, wish I could go see this one. Its going to be crazy.

Just a little note on what we are doing for those who are still looking to get tickets from GL (what they have left), etc.
The last launch we booked a hotel in Melbourne. It was ok and because of the scrub, there didn't appear to be many people at the actual launch therefore traffic into the visitors center was a piece of cake as well as leaving.
For this launch I secured causeway tickets through GL. I chose pickup at Disney All Star Music. They have rooms and at a good rate. If you are military (active or retired) they offer a discount! I booked our return flights for late night several days later just in case the launch is pushed back last minute due to cloud cover, etc. The Disney property has so many activities to keep you busy (free of charge). Also, they offer free transportation from the airport. So, should the launch get pushed back a day or so, we have plenty to do. Just some thoughts for those who have not yet booked a hotel or are looking to buy the GL visitors center tickets with transportation!

Hi, just curious about parking and such. I see a lot of auctions without a placard. How are people getting in?
I ask because I have 2 extra tickets (brother can't make it now) and want to sell them, but I don't have an extra placard.
I read back a couple pages and saw the "chat" earlier, but there was nothing concrete stated about this.
Thanks.

I would put them up for sale and make sure the buyer knows there is no parking card included. Some people need extra tickets last minute etc and will buy them. I always buy my husband a ticket and sometimes he can go and sometimes he cannot and I sell his ticket. I am hoping this year goes as planned since we did GL and I paid a lot more for his ticket which will be hard to resell!!!

Hi everyone! I know the launch is still 18 days away, but I am soooo excited and want to make sure I am prepared ahead of time. I have never been to the causeway before and I have a bunch of questions and would greatly appreciate any input anyone can offer me.
I got tickets through GL with the pick up on Merrit Island at 2am. My place is immediately south of the pier, so what time should I plan to leave? I was thinking of 1am, is that too early or too late? I have no idea how many buses there will be, so have no idea what to expect in regards to traffic.
I'm assuming concessions will probably be over-priced so was hoping to pack some drinks and snacks like sandwiches. Is bringing food okay? On the NASA website it states that soft sided coolers are permitted, but it doesn't specify any size limit?
Are Gameboys or PSP's permitted? I am bringing my 14 year old stepson who will probably get impatient with all the waiting, and I was hoping to bring the electronic babysitter to keep him occupied/quiet.
Probably little to no traffic at that time of morning. We had a pickup at 6 am for STS-132 (launch around 2:30 pm), we saw barely any other cars until we actually got into the parking lot of the pickup location in Cocoa. Leaving for KSC on FDT at 7:30 was also fairly painless. By a few hours after, though, I'd imagine it gets a bit uglier.
So no KSC tix for me
I've heard that Space View Park is the next best viewing spot, does anybody know how early it fills up? How early should I get there to ensure a good spot? Thanks in advance for any advice!

SVP fills up quite early I believe, but if you don't get into there, it's not the end of the world. There are tons of other places along the river in Titusville that have just as good of a view. Advantage to SVP is that it has video screens and is free (a lot of businesses along the river will charge $10 parking or so).

@ DrGuano
Thanks for the info. Headphones will definately be in tote as we are doing the 20 hour drive from Ontario, and I'm not exactly interested in listening to the sound effects/music of Little Big Planet for that long. Still looking for a solution for the whole "Are we there yet?" broken LP.
With the GL package, if the launch goes as scheduled, do we still have a one day pass to return to the VC? I was really hoping to go on the shuttle launch experience ride as I have not been to the VC since it was constructed/open.

So I bought 2 extra VC tickets to keep as memorabelia, but now that I was able to secure causeway passes through the congressman, I don't need them. No parking placard (that is already spoken for) but they are up for grabs.
Face value + shipping. I'm not looking to make money on them.
First PM with at least 25 posts gets it.

I just bought (I hope) STS-135 VIP tickets, which supposedly include viewing the launch from the NASA Causeway, from Florida Dolphin Tours! Got a confirmation email as well. Keeping my fingers crossed that this actually worked...

So...from a recent historical perspective(recent history), what are the chances that there will be a technical or a weather scrub for July 8th?
