The main problem in all of this is the ridiculously low rates KSC is using for their direct sale tickets. With more sensible pricing (at least 10x of what they currently have), you wouldn't be facing the rate of 1000 buyers per available ticket
Keep in mind until the end of the program, people were pretty blase about the opportunity and it wasn't even necessary to have a lottery for the tickets, and with the delays in the recent launches, there were opportunites to get tickets. I disagree, the pricing is fine--just unique situation has created the demand. You don'tr know what you've got 'til it's gone mentality.

Also - just to add..
Those who have yet to plan their location etc, I can't recommend Space View Park enough. Even though our launch was scrubbed, we headed down there and saw tonnes of dolphins and manatees (I've never actually seen a dolphin before so was quite excited

) and had a perfect view of the orbiter on the pad. It was blocked by the rss if I remember correctly but that won't matter much come launch day imho.
Also took a trip down to the space walk of fame museum, and couldn't believe how many pieces of pure history they've crammed into that shack, brilliant! [don't forget to donate]

I was fortunate to view the launch of Endeavour on STS-134 from the causeway, purchased my ticket via Florida Dolphin Tours.
For those curious about how many people view the launch from the causeway, here's a close approximation for Endeavour's launch. At the time many of us were taking pictures of the VAB, Suresh Attapatu was atop the VAB taking pictures of us http://www.flickr.com/photos/suresh_atapattu/5733655444/in/photostream/lightbox/ . From his picture, I see about 32 rows of buses - Greyline, FDT, and KSCVC (maybe others). The buses were parked three abreast so there were around 96 buses. If each bus holds 50 people we're talking 4800 people which aligns with the 5000 causeway viewers I've seen mentioned elsewhere.
and I will train a camera on to the causeway again if I am atop the VAB for this one as the clock winds down. If it is the case, perhaps you guys can wave or signal at predetermined time. ;-)

Am tidying up my various hotel bookings (just cancelled 3rd-7th at both Holiday Inn Titusville, and Comfort Suites Port Canaveral, if anyone wants pre-launch hotel time, don't know if they were sold out or not).
If anyone is hiding out there with spare Causeway tickets (I don't need placard), I have a hotel booking I won't need for Holiday Inn Titusville 7th-9th (2 nights), 2 queen beds, @ 119.00/USD night (estimated total price 266.38 inc taxes). PM me if interested, might do a deal even if you don't have Causeway to offer, but Causeway tickets definitely the best currency ;-)
[PS I can of course just cancel it as it is refundable but would prefer not to see the hotel reselling it for 500/night if someone would like a good deal]

Blimey, those Ebay resellers are cheeky sods. Love the "free shipping" incentive on a 6K purchase of tickets

If these Ebay sellers really bother some of you that much then why don't you go and try and get some answers instead of ranting on here about it. It's really getting old launch after launch. I personally don't care about the Ebay sellers. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.
I was looking at ariel views of Space View Park just because I haven't been there yet. I was wondering what the buildings are right next to it? It looks like condos or a motel. It looks like there are balconies water side facing the launch pad. I bet that's a nice view for a launch.

Hello everyone!!
I can't decide if I should buy tickets from a tour company when they go on sale, OR see the launch from a kayak. Has anybody done it from a kayak? Any recommendations/thoughts? Any good companies out there? Also, what are the odds that the kayak will tip? Will there be gators and snakes in the water?
Please give me some guidance!!
Thanks!!

This is Florida. There are always gators and snakes.
Speaking as a Floridian, the general rule of thumb is always assume there is a gator in the water. With the drought, there is reduced water in the ponds and lakes.

There's a large bank to the right of the park (big parking lot, but I guess it gets packed in the hours prior to launch). But yeah, there are loads of condos just to the left of the park which would be amazing to watch a launch from. There are, I think, also motels/hotels further past the bank which have balconies overlooking the water towards the pad, but I assume they're also booked up by now.

General FYI:
There WILL BE an NSF dinner for all those NSF members and their traveling companions the NIGHT BEFORE Atlantis takes to the sky on the final Space Shuttle mission.
Just to gauge initial interest, would anyone who thinks they MIGHT want to attend please send me a PM with the number of people you'd be bringing with you if you decide to come to the dinner.
NOTE: This is NOT final confirmation that you will attend. That will come later as we move beyond the Tanking Test and get a couple FRRs under our belt.
Thanks!

I've got Congressional tickets for what I'm assuming is the Causeway and I'm going to be staying near the Orlando airport for STS-135. For anyone with experience coming in from Orlando on launch day, I'm wondering how fast the highway gets jam-packed? I'm supposed to be at the pickup spot 4-1/2 hours before launch. What does that equate to in terms of how early I should leave Orlando? Tack on another 2 or 3 hours? Any advice would be VERY valuable!

I have a question about the online ticket purchase...
Do i only get 1 car placard regardless of how i combine the tickets? Say 3 VC and 3 AHOF?
Put it another way... Is there any way i can get more than 1 placard. I'm asking since i have friends that was not selected but want to go to KSC together with me and i want to order tickets for them to.
If the answer is no, is the only option that my friends go together in the same car? Or is it ok to just show the placard to the KSC staff upon entry to KSC?

Read further up in the thread for how to possibly score another placard. I don't think AHOF requires a placard, just those parking at KSC.

You know it is very probable that some of these Ebay sellers have no tickets and won't be getting any. They will take the money and run. Fraud is very high on Ebay, especially in the ticket sales areas for concerts and such. I would be very wary of spending money on tickets through Ebay.

I wouldn't worry all that much about someone taking the "money and running" on ebay, but I think it's more realistic, that a seller may say sorry, I can't fill this order and cancelling, and refunding.
And before you get too cranked up about what people are asking on ebay, what you really need to check is how many are actually SELLING at these prices.

That's exactly what happens. Several were cancelled for 134 because the seller was unable to secure tickets.
Also I wonder if any people are getting tickets for this launch just for souvenirs of the last shuttle launch. They could be worth something someday.

That's why you check feedback and how long they have been selling on ebay as a part of who you decide to do business with. I happen to know quite reputable sellers, and if there wasn't a secondary market for these items--they wouldn't exist. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head to buy these tickets.

Here's a question, to which I'd assume the answer was yes, but...
Is there WiFi access at the various viewing locales at KSC?
