At the gate waiting to board my flight back to Dublin after an amazing 3 day trip. What a fantastic launch and what a way to remember that weathermen often get it very, very wrong! Luck was on Atlantis's side and ours. Oh and I never did sell my extra KSC VC ticket so I' ve reduced the price slightly if anyone still wants one :p

The umbrella might still be there as we had one of the Specialty cars.
I got on a hotel shuttle to the airport and went to the Thrifty desk. I handed them a paper with your information written on it with KSC umbrella description and my contact at the hotel.
They said Lost and found is closed on the weekends so they will check on Monday and see if it gets returned to them. I asked them to leave me a message at the hotel, umbrella found or not found.
I had a slice of pizza in the airport and took the hotel shuttle back here.
If they find it I will see if I can mail it back to you where you live.
Let's see if we get lucky.

Hello All
I am new here
I was there with 1 million people watching this amazing ship Atlantis launch with the crowd roaring go baby go.
I live close and we got there around 7:00 Am, the crowd was already huge. US-1 looked like a parking lot.
I wrote a song called Throttle up for Endeavour wake up song. they had 1350 entry and I was not selected.
After being around a million people all talking to many of them about this great ship. I plan to write another song.
Many I talked to feel our leaders dropped the ball on our Man Space program.

Thanks so much to all the folks who gave such good advice in this thread. I went, I saw, and I was amazed. The 7 year old boy who bought "The Space Shuttle Operator's Manual" back at STS-1 was, as a 37 year old father, able to watch his first Shuttle launch.

Wish I could've been there, but it just wasn't in the cards. Thanks to all on this site as I use it to follow the mission as much as I can (despite being quite busy at the moment). I hope to be able to witness a manned launch from Florida one of these days, maybe before too many years go by with any luck (maybe the first DreamChaser launch!)
I'm kinda thinking I would love to see a landing.....nothing like that double sonic boom!!
Wonder if with this wicked weather we get now maybe she will land at Edwards, if possible maybe I should plan a quick trip out there.

I'll add my thanks once again to everyone here - you were all helpful in making our launch viewing experience the awesome event it was!
Had some serious hiccups on the way (flight from Dayton to Atlanta delayed 2.5 hours, barely forced our way onto the Atlanta to Daytona Beach flight that landed at 11:30 pm, still managed to be at Crossroads Plaza for bus pickup at 1:00 am!) but we made it... and the launch was just spectacular.
You could really feel the emotion in the crowd and it was exciting but quite bittersweet to watch Atlantis rise off the pad one last time...

It seems like most of us (in the U.S.) will not get any opportinities to see the shuttle in orbit for the final time.
In the New York area, it "becomes visible" on July 23...long after it's return, and I believe in Florida it becomes visible on July 19, just one day prior to it's landing.

Watching Atlantis docking with the ISS live on NASA TV. Such precise manoeuver!!! Incredible images... Still can't believe this will be the last time...
Great timing for me with the F1 British Grand Prix having just ended about 1/2 hour ago!
Go Atlantis!!!

Just a quick shout out to FDT and our guide, Paul. Well run operation, I thought. I picked up our tickets at will call, were on the bus by 1:00, and they left Orlando as soon as the bus was full - 1:30, an hour early. Had plenty of time to go out to the Saturn V Center to see 39A (and Atlantis, if you looked carefully!!)
Great advice from Paul to walk to bleachers and countdown clock, which were basically empty when we got there. Amazing, the bleachers never filled, and the crowd was only three deep at the closest point to the pad. Weird. It never filled up at the far west end by the bleachers.
Thanks, Paul for some great advice and Florida Dolphin Tours for a great trip!!

By the way, I don't think I read anywhere that there would be huge tents with covered seating. Of course, it wasn't necessary as it turned out, since it wasn't raining, and it wasn't particularly hot, because of the awesome breeze. But was that special for this launch? I don't recall anyone mentioning that that would be available.

According to the notes from the L2 document below, any landing at Edwards will likely be a night landing. An extension day looks pretty much in the bag, and they probably wouldn't try for Edwards until the following day.

I think the launch was the last time I'll have set eyes on an operational shuttle

Any of you still in Orlando planning on going back to KSC to re-use your blue tickets (second-time free visit)?
In this case I would be happy to share the ride - please send me a PM - will chip in for fuel. Thanks. :-)

confirmed. really quite incredibly glad my modus operandi is to run from the plane to the car rental counter and THEN to baggage claim, because it's pretty much the only way i was able to drive off of the lot.
they'd run out of compacts and had to give me a free upgrade from a ford focus to a chevy impala. i dealt with it.
by the time i pulled out of MCO, right around 12:30 am, it was across an empty parking lot with a long line of people waiting for cars to be driven in from other locations.
it's a safe bet that if i'd gone from baggage claim to the rental counter i wouldn't have made it to the gator pickup location.
